HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 24, Page 305, August 8, 1961L J 305 Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah— August 8, 1961 At a $egular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 7:30 P.M. on August 8, 1961, Mayor Cherry presid and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Cherry (5). Mayor Cherry offered motion that the reading of the Minutes for July 25, 1961 be waived and that the Minutes of said meeting prepared by the City Clerk be approved as written. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Cherry (5). Declare R.F. `- Mayor Cherry offered the following motion: It appearing that Roger F. Christie, Christie office Civil Service a member of the Civil Service Commission of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, for a term Com, vacant expiring December 9, 1961, has permanently moved his residence from the State of Kentuc I move his office be declared vacant, effective immediately. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Cherry (5). Henry Kolb i Mayor Cherry made the following appointment: Subject to the approval of the appointed on Civil Service Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, I hereby appoint Kentu Kolb as a member Commission of the Civil Service Commission of said City for a term expiring December 9, 1961, so that said board as now constituted shall be composed of the following members: Henry Kolb whose term will expire December 9, 1961 Leslie Feast whose term will expire December 9, 1962 Kelly Crayne whose term will expire December 9, 1963 Approve appoint- L'_ Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve the ment Henry Kolb Civil Service Cc action of Robert C. Mrs. Clarence Mayor Cherry made the following appointment: It appearing that the term of office Bennett & Rev. w.B.Casey of Mrs. Clarence Bennett and Rev. lel. B. Casey as members of the Board of Trustees of the reappointed Library Board Paducah Carnegie Library expired on June 14, 1960, I hereby reappoint the said Mrs. Clarence Bennett and Rev. W. B. Casey for a term ending June 14, 1964; so that said board as now constituted shall be composed of the following members: Mr. August J. Legeay whose term expires June 14, 1962 Airs. John Blackburn whose term expires June 14, 1962 Mr. David Sawyer whose term expires June 14, 1963 Mrs. C. M. Bennett whose term expires June 14, 1964 Rev. W. B. Water connection Commissioner Davis offered motion that the petition of :•filliam Joseph Roof, Jr. il.M.Roof, Jr Minnich Ave �� and his wife, Martha Jane Roof, for permission to make one 3/4 -inch connection to the privately owned water pipe line located on Minnich Avenue for the purpose of furnishing water to one residence only to be built upon property now owned by petitioners and fron 141 feet on Minnich Avenue in McCracken County, Kentucky, and outside the corporate lim of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be received and filed and that the request petitioned therein be granted subject to the terms and conditions in said petition. Na 306 Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah August 8, 1961 Bobby Hicks Commissioner Davis offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of Ray advanced to Ea'uip Operator Kayse, Director of Public Works, I move that Bobby Hicks, a truck Driver in the Refuse Refuse Division of the City of Paducah, be advanced to the Position of Equipment Operator, effective August 16, 1961, at a salary of `71.72 per hour, such employment not being unde civil service. J Tilford State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company to Jewel R. Tilford covering trucking opera- tions in the City of Paducah for a period of one year from April 8, 1961, be received, approved and filed. Sell prave II Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve Rushing Add Shirley (/ the sale by the City of Paducah to Mrs. Shirley Paschall of the south east corner of Paschall i Lot No. 21 in Block No. 8 of the Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorized to execute a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Terminate Ii Commissioner Fendley offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of James W. Morris H. L. Skinner, Superintendent of the Cemetery Department, I move that the services of Cemetery 1 James W. Commissioner Fendley offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of Maupin adv. to Sewer Ray Kayse, Director of Public 'dorks, I move that Herbert H. Maupin, a street repairman Maintenance in the Street Division of the City of Paducah, be advanced to the position of Sewer Maintenance Man, effective August 16, 1961, at a salary of $1.65 per hour, such employment being under Civil Service. Commissioner Gholson offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of Ray i Kayse, Director of Public Works, I move that Joe A. Garner be temporarily employed as a laborer (concrete finisher) in the Street Department of the City, at a salary of j1.40 per hour, retroactive to July 31, 1961. Commissioner Hook offered motion that the Performance Bond executed by Harold Jo d/b/a !Jest Kentucky Asphalt Paving Company, in the sum of "`35,000.00, with Maryland Casualty Company as Surety, for 1961 street paving, be received, approved and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Cherry (5). Commissioner Hook offered motion that Donnie Lee Sills be temporarily employed as a seasonal laborer in the Cemetery Department of the City, at a salary of y1.00 per hour, retroactive to August 7, 1961. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Cherry (5). Commissioner Hook offered motion that the letter addressed to the Paducah Police Department from Julian M. Carroll, President, Paducah Optimist Club, expressing appreciation for the cooperation of said department during the recent Soap Box Derby, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Cherry (5). Mayor Cherry offered motion that the letter from Mrs. Joe Rosenfield commending the Police Department for acts of kindness recently extended by members of said departments be received and filed. Insurance Mayor Cherry offered motion that the liability insurance policy issued by United Ed. D. Hannan States Fidelity and Guaranty Company to the City of Paducah covering work done by Emmett D. Hannan & David Hannan d/b/a Ed. D. Hannan, for a period of one year from July 31, 1961, be received, approved and filed. Russell Johnson advanced to Mayor Cherry offered the following motion: Upon recommendation of Ray Kayse, " Sewer Maintenanq.aDirector of Public :forks, I move that Russell Johnson, a truck driver in the street Street Division 11 � division of the City of Paducah, be advanced to the position of Sewer Maintenance Man, effective August 16, 1961, at a salary of x1.65 per hour, such employment being under Civil Service. Request bids��' Commissioner Davis offered motion that a Resolution entitled: "A RESOLUTION Fire Truck REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE (1) 1000 G.P.M. TRIPLE COMBIUATION PUMPER FIRE TRUCK FOR USE BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH KEHSTUCKY, AND PRESCRIBING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS UPON11HICH SUCH PURCHASE SHALL BE MADS be adopted.
