HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 24, Page 147, April 20, 1960No 147 Proceedings of Board of Commis4ioners City of Paducah April 90 ,1960 At a Called Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky at 10:00 A.M. on April 20, 1960, Mayor Cherry resided and upon call of the Roll the following p p ng answered to their names: Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4), Commissioner Gholson being absent (1). Mayor Cherry offered motion that the executed copies of the Notice of Called Meeting to be held at 10:00 A.M. on April 20, 1960., be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Bar Assoc. Commissioner Davis offered motion that the letter from McCracken County Bar City Hall site Association dated April19, 1960 to the Mayor and Board of Commissioners reciting approval and endorsement of the construction of a new city hall on the Urbam Renewal Development site proposed by Mr. Robert Overstreet, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Letter sell Commissioner Davis offered motion that the letter from Mrs. Edith Walker expressr intoxicants to minors b ing approval of the plan suggested by Mr. Sam Skaggs, Jr. to help control the sale of intoxicants to minors, be received and filed. Settle claim ',,� Commissioner Davis offered motion that the claim of Kentucky Heart Association, Ky Heart Assoc Inc. (401 Speed Building, Louisville 2, Kentucky), against the city for damage to its i motor vehicle by a city refuse truck on April 1, 1960 on Spring Street, in the sum of $16.00 be allowed; and that the City Treasurer be, and he is hereby, authorized to pay said sum to said Association after securing a full and complete release. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the executed Contract between the City of Paducah and Reed Crushed Stone Company, dated April 15, 1960, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (41), Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the letter from Southern Textile Machinery Company dated April 19, 1960 to the Mayor of Paducah, relative to the present strike of the employees of the Company, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the resolution unanimously passed by j the Paducah Rotary Club at a meeting held on April 12, 1960 regarding the location of a new city hall, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioner' Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Commissioner Hook offered motion that the letter from Lewis E. Wallaee, Busines s international Association o£ Machinist Representative of Paducah District Lodge No. 154, dated April 1$, 1960 to the Mayor of the City, relative to the present strike at Souther Textile Machinery Company, be received and filed. I 148 Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah April 20, 1960 Employ Robt.l Commissioner Hook offered motion that Robert Watkins be employed as a fireman in Watkins Fireman the fire department of the City of Paducah at the beginning salary of :6270.00 per month, effective May 1, 1960, provided that by such time he furnishes, at his expense, the City Manager with a satisfactory medical report as to his physical condition, including an electrocardigram. Edwin Walston / Commissioner Hook offered motion that the resignation of Edwin Walston as a member resignation I�j fire dept, of the fire department of the City of Paducah, effective April 22, 1960, be received, filed and accepted as of said date. Settle claim' Commissioner Hook offered motion that the claim of Marvin Edwards (634 Highland Marvin Edwar s I Blvd.) against the City for damages to his motor vehicle by the city street sweeper on April 1, 1960 at 32nd & Broadway, in the sum of •3270.95 be allowed; and that the City Treasurer be, and he is hereby, authorized to pay said amount to him after securing a full and complete release. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Letter K.C. Mayor Cherry offered motion that the letter from Mr. K. C. Smith regarding the new Smith School Tra- traffic plan which has been put in operation at Brazelton Junior High School, be ffic plan received and filed. Request bid Commissioner Fendley offered motion that a Resolution entitled: "A RESOLUTION Crawler i Trdctor REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE (1) NEW CRAWLEi TRACTOR FOR USE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, AND PRESCRIBING THE CONDITIONS UPON WHICH SUCH PURCHASE SHALL BE MADE", be adopted. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4). Employ Burns & McDonnell i Sewer survey Commissioner Hook offered motion that an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING THE BID OF EMULSIFIED ASPHALT COMPANY FOR THE SALE TO THE CITY OF TYPE RS, MS, SS AND AE -200 EMULSIFIED ASPHALT REQUIRED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH DURING THE YEAR 1960, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY 14ANAGER TO ENTER INTO AND EXECUTE A CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF SAID MATERIALS, AND PRESCRIBING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS UPON WHICH SAID PURCHASES SHALL BE MADE", be introduced and remain on file for public inspection for at least one (1) week in the completed form in which it shall be put upon its final passage. Mayor Cherry offered motion that an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR AND AUTHORIZING THE EMPLOYMENT OF BURNS AND McDONNELL ENGINEERING COMPANY, CONSULTING ENGINEERS, IN CONNECTION WITH PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES NECESSARY TO PREPARE A MASTER PLAN REPORT SETTING FORTH THE SEWER REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CITY OF PADUCAH AND ADJACENT AREAS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY. MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT OR AGREEMENT FOR SUCH SERVICES", be adopted. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners -Davis, Fendley, Hook and Mayor Cherry (4).
