Cox Protest payr tax increase Letter Retail Ferchants - y City 41mrf City of Paducah I•lay 1, 1956 At a Called Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamb of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 7:30 P.M. on I•lay 1, 1956, Mayor Jacobs preside and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Clark Gangnath, McBride, Trevathan and Mayor Jacobs (5). Mayor Jacobs offered motion that the notices of called meeting to be held at 7:30 P.I•l. on ?•lay 1, 1956, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Gangnath, McBride, Trevathan and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Clark offered motion that the petition signed by employees if Southern Textile Machinery Company opposing the increase in the city payroll tae, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Gangnath, McBride, Trevathan and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Clark offered motion that the petition signed by legal voters and taxpayers of the City trotesting an increase in thepayroll tax, .be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Gangnath, McBride, Trevathan and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Clark offered motion that the letter from Paducah City Council of the Parent -Teachers Association unanimously endorsing reassessment of Paducah property, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners.Clark, + Gangnath, McBride, Trevathan and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Gangnath offered motion that the City Treasurer be authorized to publish in the Sun -Democrat the condensed form of the audit report prepared by Williams & Williams the Certified Public Accountants employed by the City to make an audit of its financial affairs for the year 1955. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Gangnath, McBride, Trevathan and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Gangnath offered the following motion: I move that the Doard of Commissioners approve the transfer from T. R. Massie to Dr. B. F. Cox and his wife, Betty Coulter Cox of the northeast quarter of Lot No. 3 in Block No. 5, being 7h feet by 7x feet-, frontinjg- on the south side of Hannan Avenue between Chamblin Street and Foreman Street in Oak Grove Cemetery. I further move that the City Clerk be directed to make the proper transfer on the Cemetery Register. Commissioner McBride offered motion that the letter signed by employees of the Paducah Sash & Door Company protesting any increase in the payroll tax be received and Ell -ad. I further move that the check in the amount of 0,088.74 be turned over to the City Treasurer to be deposited in the General Fund. Increase Commissioner Gangnath offered motion that an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE Payroll Taxi, AIMIDING SECTION 2 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED: 'AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE II•'IPOSITIO OF LICENSE FEES FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF ENGAGING IN OCCUPATIONS, TRADES AND PROFESSIONS IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, BY ALL PERSONS EMPLOYED BY OTHERS, NEASURED BY ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT OF THE GROSS RECEIPTS EARNED ON AND AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF JULY, 1950; 1.
