HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 22, Page 298, October 16, 1951No. 298 - -- Proceedings of Board of Commissioners Clky of Paducah October 16, 1951 At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 7:30 P.M. on October 16, 1951, Mayor Johnston presided and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). Minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read. Rushing Add ✓ Commissioner Hannin offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve the Cemetery Grave to sale by the City of Paducah to Deloris White of Grave No. 124 in Block No. 7 of the Deloris White Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorized to execute a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). Transfer Commissioner Hannin offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve Cemetery lot to Sarah t/i the transfer by Rebecca Smith Lee and husband Owen S. Lee to Sarah Smith Campbell all Smith Campbell of the one-half undivided interest of Rebecca. Smith Lee in and to a lot 30x30 feet, being part of Lot No. 307 in Block 20, Oak Grove Cemetery. He further moved that the City Clerk be authorized to make the proper transfer on the Cemetery Register. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). Retail Acer- f Commissioner Hannin offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive and chants V' Resolution file the resolution adopted by the Retail Merchants Association requesting that the city :Phite Way Lights of Paducah authorize the Kentucky Utilities Company to supply Broadway from First to Seventh Streets with a modern attractive and efficient "White Way" system and to set up the standards for the minimum maintenance of this new system. He further moved that same be referred to a joint committee to be composed of the City Manager, the Kentucky Utilities and the Retail Merchants Association Lighting committee. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Jphnston (5). Cemetery/% Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive and ✓ Division Request file the letter of John W. Crider, Sexton, Oak Grove Cemetery, requesting a substantial Salary increase increase in the salaries of all employees in the Cemetery Division. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). Rhodes -Broady j Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive Court ✓ Report Sept. and file the Financial Report for the month of September, 1951, on the Rhodes -Broady 1951 Court. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). New Firo ✓ Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive Station -pay Contractor and approve the statement of the Contractor for the Fire Station in the sum of $12,330 112,330 ar.S that the City Treasurer be authorized to issue check in this amount covering statementf of Cctober 3, 1951. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yean, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston. (5). Board of Equal- Commissioner aims offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive the ization 7 request wage request of Wayne Seaton, G. P. Haley and C. N. Rawlings, membero of the Board of increase Equalization, for an increase in the wages paid to said Board, and that the matter be referred to the City Manager for investigation and recommendations. Adopted on call of the Rcll, Yeas, Ccfnmissicners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). s 9 No._..- Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah October 16, 1951 BuildingCommissioner Thomas offered motion that the Board of Commissioners direct the City Permit fee ✓II refund to Treasurer to refund to Wilson Gleaves the sum of $4.00 which represents the amount paid Wilson Gleavei for a building permit to place asbestos siding on property located at 321 North 6th Street. This work will not be done. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hannin, Jacobs, Sims, Thomas and Mayor Johnston (5). Bonds & policies Commissioner Thomas offered motion that the following bonds and liability policies McNeese ConstJ'. Company be received, filed and approved: L.E.CUnningham Cornell Dev. Bond of McNeese Construction Company in the amount of $4000 dated October 8, 1951• Company (Guthrie May); Liability policy issued by the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company protecting the City of Paducah with respect to work done by L. E. Cunningham, effective October 10, 1951. Bond of L. E. Cunningham in the amount of $1000 dated October 9, 1951• Liability policy issued by the Employers' Liability Assurance Corpcation, Limited, protecting the City of Paducah with respect to work done by Guthrie May d/b/a Cornell Development Company and/or Guthrie May Company, Inc., for aperiod of one year from August 23, 1951. Also two bonds of Guthrie May d/b/a Cornell Development Company of Paducah, Kentuck and Guthrie May of Evansville, Indiana, in the amount of $3,500 each dated October 9th and October 10, 1951. Park Board Mayor Johnston made the following appointment: (white) Luther Carson] It appearing that the term of office of Luther Carson as a member of the Board of reappointed Park Commissioners (white) will expire on August 11, 1951, I hereby reappoint the said Luther Carson to serve as a member of said board for a further term of five (5) years beginning August 11, 1951. Signed Stuart Johnston Mayor Approve Commissioner Thomas offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve the reappointment Luther Carson ^ action of the Mayor reappointing Luther Carson to serve as a member of the Board of Park Park Board --. Commissioners (white) for a further term of five (5) years beginning August 11, 1951, so that said board as now constituted shall be composed of the following members: Chas. A. Vandevelde, whose term expires August 11, 1955 Luther Carson, whose term expires, August 11, 1956 i Tam Reed whose term expires August 11, 1952 Dr. G. B. Traffic -Joint', Mayor Johnston offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive and file report Traffic & Civic Comm- the letter of R. V. Green, Manager, Association of Commerce, to which is attached a copy of ittees A of Cr Ithe Joint Report of their Traffic and Civic Committees relative to a course of action in connection with traffic in Paducah.
