City of PaducaR Kr%17'UChX May !'Dth, 19 ':otion to petition U.S. Govern- ment to locate Federal Prison in Paducah. w 0 At a call meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commissioners' Chamber at the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky on the 20th day of May at 5:15 P.M. Mayor Scott presided and upon call of the roll the following answered to thetr names: Counissioners Baker, Bradshaw, Washburn and Mayor Scott (4). Commissioner Ripley being absent. Uayor Scott stated reason for call to -wit: For the ourpoze of considcrins and making application for the location of a Fedcral Prison in Paducah and to transact any other business that may come before the meeting. Commissioner Washburn offered the following motion: The United States Government contemplates the construction of a Federal Prison in Kentucky with a capacity for more than two thousand prisoners with an employee personnel of 200 persons. If we can obtain for Paducah this Federal Prison, it will mean the expenditure for labor and materials of over two million dollars. This V1 Ill. be beneficial to local labor, local merchants, local landlords, and the citizens in general and of material benefit to the same class throu t the years to come. I move that the Board of Commissioners authorize the Bon. E. G. Scott to communicate immediately with Senators Barkley and Logan and Congressman Gregory and advise these gentlemen that Paducah desires to make application to the proper Commission to locate said Federal Prison in Paducah and to ask those gentlemen to lend their Influence In our behalf and if the Iayor shall deem it best that it be authorized to name a committee to appear before said locating co.Nnittee at Washington.
