HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/04/07SEPTEMBER 4, 2007 At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners, held on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 5:30 p.m., Mayor Paxton presided, and upon call of the roll by the City Clerk, the following answered to their names: Commissioners Coleman, Kaler, Watkins, and Mayor Paxton (4). Commissioner Smith was absent. (1) WORKSHOP PADUCAH POWER REPORT ON FUTURE POWER SUPPLY FOR THE COMMUNITY Mr. Ray McLennon, Chairman of Paducah Power Board, David Clark, General Manager of Paducah Power and Rick Soderholm with R. W. Beck, consultants on the project, ` y presented an update to the Commission on the status of the power supply plan. Paducah Power gave notice to TVA they wanted to terminate their contract in 2004. In 2009 the contract will run out. In 2005 Paducah Power became an owner in the Prairie State Project by joining with Princeton Electric Plant Board to form the Kentucky Municipal Power Agency. The Prairie State Energy Project is located in southwestern Illinois. Prairie State will supply 80% of our required electricity. Operating costs are expected to be among the lowest in the region. Paducah Power will obtain the balance of power supply from the open market. Paducah Power has an agreement in place (first of its kind) with TVA to maintain existing interconnection as an emergency backup source for power. This shows that a good working relationship with TVA remains. Mayor Paxton asked them to return in six months to again brief the Commission on their progress. A copy of the Power Supply Plan Update is in the Minute File. CITY MANAGER REPORT • Jon Perkins, Finance Director, was Acting City Manager while Mr. Zumwalt was out of town. Over the weekend, the front of a building on Broadway collapsed. Mr. Perkins gave a brief timeline of the situation. Mr. Perkins thanked all city departments for their quick response and concern for public safety. He also thanked all others involved in the situation. • Tomorrow, Congressman Ed Whitfield will attend the 5th Anniversary of the Challenger Center at 3:00 p.m. • Thursday, Chamber Breakfast • September 11th is the GPEDC Annual meeting in the 2nd floor auditorium at Western Baptist Heart Center COMMISSIONER CONCERNS Watkins: Parks Services is offering boxing lessons beginning next week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. People are not cleaning up after their dogs along the riverfront. A City Ordinance is in place with penalties if dog owners are caught in violation of this ordinance. Mark Thompson, Parks Services Director, reviewed the penalties, $10 up to $1,000 with the Commission. Signage will be added in this area to remind dog owners of the proper method of disposing of dog feces. Upon motion the meeting adjourned. ADOPTED: September$, 2007 J4'-ry��/S-to'� City Clerk
