WORKSHOP
PADUCAH POWER REPORT ON FUTURE POWER SUPPLY FOR THE
COMMUNITY
Mr. Ray McLennon, Chairman of Paducah Power Board, David Clark, General Manager
of Paducah Power and Rick Soderholm with R. W. Beck, consultants on the project,
` y presented an update to the Commission on the status of the power supply plan. Paducah
Power gave notice to TVA they wanted to terminate their contract in 2004. In 2009 the
contract will run out. In 2005 Paducah Power became an owner in the Prairie State
Project by joining with Princeton Electric Plant Board to form the Kentucky Municipal
Power Agency.
The Prairie State Energy Project is located in southwestern Illinois. Prairie State will
supply 80% of our required electricity. Operating costs are expected to be among the
lowest in the region. Paducah Power will obtain the balance of power supply from the
open market.
Paducah Power has an agreement in place (first of its kind) with TVA to maintain
existing interconnection as an emergency backup source for power. This shows that a
good working relationship with TVA remains.
Mayor Paxton asked them to return in six months to again brief the Commission on their
progress.
A copy of the Power Supply Plan Update is in the Minute File.
