AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR TO
EXECUTE AN ENGINEERING SERVICE CONTRACT WITH FLORENCE &
HUTCHESON, INC. FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH THE
FLOODWALL PIPE REHABILITATION ASSESSMENT
WHEREAS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed a Flood Damage
Reduction Analysis Report in May, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the Corps report noted significant deterioration of the corrugated
metal pipes that are located along the floodwall corridor and recommended rehabilitation of
certain corrugated metal pipes; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to evaluate all pipes crossing through the floodwall
and to obtain an analysis of the necessary repairs required to complete the Floodwall Pipe
Rehabilitation Project. This initial project will be associated with the overall Paducah Flood
Protection Restoration; and
WHEREAS, Florence & Hutcheson, Inc., has in its employ persons experienced
in this area of expertise; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the current language of the Water Resources
Development Act (WRDA) bill, the City of Paducah will receive credit toward any expenditures
made related to the Floodwall Pipe Rehabilitation Project.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor of the City of Paducah is hereby authorized and
directed to execute an Engineering Service Contract with Florence & Hutcheson, Inc., in an
amount not to exceed $163,800.00 for professional engineering services to assess approximately
77 gravity pipes crossing through the floodwall.
SECTION 2. This expenditure shall be charged to Floodwall Restoration
DT0019 account.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and will become
effective upon summary publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
