HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/01/09DECEMBER 1, 2009 At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners, held on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 5:30 p.m., Mayor Paxton presided, and upon call of the roll by the City Clerk, the following answered to their names: Commissioners Abraham, Gault, Kaler, Watkins and Mayor Paxton (5). PRESENTATION Public Information Officer Pam Spencer introduced Jessie Ferren, a Paducah resident of Ohio Street. Ms. Ferren's house caught on fire last night. Due to the smoke alarms that the Fire Department installed through its free smoke alarm and installation program she says her life was saved. She just wanted to say thank you and let the public know how important it is to have smoke alarms installed and working in your home. ORDINANCE ā€” INTRODUCTION RENAME ZONE BOARD TO PADUCAH RENAISSANCE ALLIANCE AND RELINQUISH MANAGEMENT DUTIES OF BARBEQUE ON THE RIVER EVENT Commissioner Abraham offered motion, seconded by Commissioner Gault, that the Board of Commissioners introduce an ordinance entitled, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AMENDING DIVISION 15, "ZONE BOARD OF PADUCAH", OF CHAPTER 2, "ADMINISTRATION" OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY". This ordinance is summarized as follows: Amending the ordinance which created the Zone Board of Paducah to rename Zone Board to Paducah Renaissance Alliance and to relinquish management duties of Barbeque on the River Event. WORKSHOP PAVILION UPDATE Parks Services Director Mark Thompson reiterated the pavilion structure bids will be opened on Monday, December 7th. The types of pavilions to be bid are air supported structure and a tension fabric structure with frame support. Bidders were instructed to provide three pricing options: 1) year to year lease; 2) 5 year lease with option to purchase and 3) complete purchase. Once the bids are opened it will come before the Board for recommendation and approval. Accessories, flooring and other amenities will be bid at a later date. Commissioner Watkins asked that a cost comparison be completed for a permanent 50,000 square foot structure. Mr. Doolittle estimated that a 35,000 square ft. metal structure would cost between $3.5 million to $4 million. Also, Mr. Thompson reminded everyone of the parade on Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. Former Parks employee Pat Earles and former Fire Chief Redell Benton are the grand marshals. MANAGER REPORT The City Manager distributed a handout of events happening during the holiday season. COMMISSIONER CONCERNS Commissioner Gault had a meeting with the Mayor and Pastor Henderson to address diversity issues. She mentioned the Board meeting on a Saturday with some of the African- American pastors to help bring out issues into the community. She thinks it will be a good way to find out what people are thinking and then decide what the next step will be. Upon motion the meeting adjourned. ADOPTED: December 8 2009 lā€ž-),,, saw City Clerk
