HomeMy WebLinkAbout79-12-1833�, [:N ORDINANCE NO. 79-12-1833 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2-285 AND 2-287 OF ARTICLE XVI, HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, EXTENDING: THE TERMS OF 'MEMBERS WHEREAS, the "Hinman Rights .Commission -has requested- that the -terms of the members -of the Hinman Rights Commission" be extended to three (3) years with the ending dates staggered so that a proportionate number of the Human Rights Com- .. mission members' -terms -shall•- expire each "year., .and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, believe that this arrangement will make for amore stable and effective Human Rights Commission. NOW,. THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD: OF COMMISSIONERS OF . THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Section 2-285 of Article XVI, Composition; appointment and -qualifications of members, of the Human Rights Commission be amended so that said section shall hereinafter read as follows: " Sec . 2-285. Composition; appointment, and qualifications of" members The Commission shall; be composed of+_nine:- -(9) members. The members shall be'appointed by the Mayor, subject :to the approval of the Board of Commissioners, who -shall select -persons who are nearly as possible representative of the several social, economic, religious, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups which comprise the population of the Greater Paducah Area. In addition, each: member shall. be a ._resident of the Greater Paducah Area". SECTION 2. -- That-'S,ection 2-287 of Article -XVII, terms of members of the Human Rights . Commission -be amended .so° that said section- -shallhereinafter read as follows: "Sec. 2-287. Terms of Members. Effective immediately, three of the members of the Commission appointed to office in 1979, shall serve for a term of one year; three of the members of the Com- mission appointed to office in 1979, shall serve for terms of two years; three of the members of the Commission appointed to office -in �-1979, shalt -serve for ,terms of three years. Upon expiration of the aforesaid appointments. each member appointed there- after shall serve for a term- of .three years. Upon a vacancy occurring, the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Commissioners, shall appoint a member to complete the unexpired term". 463 SECTION 3. This ordinance amends an ordinance adopted by the Board of Commissioners on May 26, 1974, as. -amended on July 24, 1979. SECTION _ 4... This ordinance _shall be introduced. and remain on file._ for one._week for public inspection_ in, the completed form in which .it shall be put upon its final passage, and if adopted shall be in full force and effect immediately there- after..
