HomeMy WebLinkAbout83-2-2352517 ORDINANCE NO. 83-2-2352 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING LENGTH OF TERMS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners wishes to fix the maximum term for all Boards and Commissions to four years, and WHEREAS, the terms of some Boards are more than four years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Sub -section (b) of Section 711-10, Paducah Cable Communications Authority, be amended and reordained so that said section shall hereafter read as follows: Section 712-10. Paducah Cable Communications Authority. "(b) Membership; chairman. The authority shall consist of five (5) members of which not less than three (3) shall be residents of the city and all members shall be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Com- mission. Each member shall serve a term of five -{S} four (4) years; pro- vided, however, that appointments to the first authority shall be for one (1), two (2), three (3), four (4) and five (5) year terms respectively. Any vacancy in the office shall be filled by appointment of the Mayor and ap- proval of the Commission for the remainder of the term. No employee or person with any ownership interest in any cable television franchise granted pursuant to this chapter shall be eligible for membership on the authority. The City Manager, or his authorized representatives, may serve as an ex officio nonvoting member of the authority. The authority shall annually select from among its number a chairman who shall preside over the meetings". SECTION 2. That Section 10-73, Control and Management of the Appointive Employees' Pension Fund, be amended and reordained so that said section shall hereafter read as follows: "Section 10-73. Control and Management; Membership of Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees of the Appointive Employees' Pension Fund shall have exclusive control and management of the pension fund and of all moneys donated or paid for the relief or pensioning of employees. The membership of such Board shall consist of the Mayor, who shall act as chair- man of the Board, the City Manager, and not less than two (2) employees who shall be elected by the remaining eligible employees for a five four (4) year term. In the event of a vacancy in the term of any elective member, the remaining voting members of the Board shall, by a majority vote, appoint a successor to serve for the remainder of the termtP. 518 SECTION 3. That Section 32-21, Terms of Office, of Chapter 32 be amended and reordained so that said section shall hereafter read as follows: "Sec. 32-21. Terms of office. Effective immediately, the three (3) members of the Commissioners of Waterworks appointed to office in 1978, shall serve for terms of three (3) years, four (4) years, and five (5) years. The remaining two (2) members of the Commissioners of Waterworks shall complete the remainder of their three- year appointed terms. Upon expiration of the aforesaid appointments, each member appointed thereafter shall serve for a term of five- cg} four (4) years. Upon a vacancy occurring, the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Commissioners, shall appoint a member to complete the unexpired term". SECTION 4. The new length of terms shall be for all appointments made after the effective date of this ordinance. SECTION S. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and will be effective upon publication of title and a certified summary thereof.
