HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/27/70 SpecialNo. 128 Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah October 27, 1970 A Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners was held in the Commission Chamber in the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 1:30 P.M. on October 27, 1970. The meeting was for the purpose of hearing charges preferred by Thomas J. Rothrock, Chief of the Paducah Fire Department, against Billy Hillman, a fireman in said department. Mayor Cherry presided at said meeting and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Harvey, Hornsby, Puryear and Mayor Cherry (4), Commissioner Fisher was absent. The case was called for hearing and at the conclusion of all evidence and arguments, Commissioner John Hornsby offered the following motion which was seconded by Commissioner Puryear: WHEREAS, the case of Thomas J. Rothrock, Chief of the Paducah Fire Department, against Billy Hillman, a fireman in the Paducah Fire Department, was brought for hearing before the Board of Commissioners on October 27, 1970, and WHEREAS, the case for the plaintiff was presented by Corporation Counsel, J. William Howerton, and for the defense by the defendant in person, and WHEREAS, the defendant agreed that the two counts against him be tried together in one action, and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has heard the evidence and argument for both sides and is otherwise sufficiently advised of the facts and issued in this case. NOW THEREFORE, I move that the Board find the defendant, Billy Hillman, guilty of misconduct and inefficiency on both counts, except for that portion of Count No. 1 pertaining to being under the influence of alcoholic beverages, and that the Board further finds said defendant unfit for duty in the Paducah Fire Department, and that he be, and he is hereby, dismissed from employment as a member of the Fire Department of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, effective immediately, and Ilfurther move that the action of the Fire Chief in suspending the defendant from duty be ratified. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Hornsby, Puryear and Mayor Cherry (3), Commissioner Harvey voted "No There being no further business to come before this special meeting, the meeting was adjourned.
