HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/03/75Proceedings of Board of Commissioners Cily of Paducah At a meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber in the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 5: 30 p.m. , on March 3, 19 75, Mayor McNutt presided and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Brumley, Coleman, Hornsby, Puryear and Mayor McNutt (5) . The meeting was for the purpose of hearing charges preferred by Commissioner Clifford A. Brumley against Clovis Lovelace and Steven B. Thompson, members of the Paducah Police Department. The case for the complainant was presented by Corporation Counsel, W. David Denton, and the defendants were represented by Attorney Herbert S. Melton. The charges were read by the Corporation Counsel, W. David Denton. Counsel for the defendants made the statement to the Commission that the defendants admit the charges, and upon being interrogated responded that they did not desire to contest the allegations contained in the Statement of Charges. Counsel for the defendants stated that he had some questions he would like to ask the Chief of Police and the Assistant Chiefs. At the conclusion of which the Board retired to executive session for deliberation concerning appropriate action to be taken in regard to officers Lovelace and Thompson. The Board then returned to open meeting and Commissioner Coleman offered the following motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Puryear: The Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah having heard testimony upon charges preferred against Clovis Lovelace, a member of the Paducah Police Department, by Commissioner Clifford A. Brumley, and further upon being informed by the defendant that he did not desire to offer any contest to the allegations in the Statement of Charges filed February 28, 1975, I therefore move that the defendant, Clovis Lovelace be, and he is hereby suspended from duty as a police officer and employee of the City of Paducah for a total period of sixty (60) days, beginning January 26, 1975. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman, Hornsby and Puryear (3) , Nays, Commissioner Brumley and Mayor McNutt (2) . Commissioner Coleman then offered the following motion which was seconded by Commissioner Hornsby: The Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah having heard testimony upon charges preferred against Steven B. Thompson, a member of the Paducah Police Department, by Commissioner Clifford A. Brumley, and further upon being informed by the defendant that he did not desire to offer any contest to the allegations in the Statement of Charges filed February 28, 1975, I therefore move that the defendant, Steven B. Thompson, be, and he is hereby suspended from duty as a police officer and employee of the City of Paducah for a total period of thirty (30) days, beginning January 26, 1975.
