City of Paducah May 5, 1978
At a Called Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber
at City Hall on May 5, 1978, Mayor Murphy presided and upon call of the Roll the following
answered to their names: Commissioners Coleman, Grumley, Meeks, Puryear and Mayor Murphy (5) .
Mayor Murphy offered motion, seconded by Commissioner Coleman that the executed
copies of the Notices of Called Meeting to be held at 4:30 P.M. on Friday, May 5, 1978, be
received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman, Grumley, Meeks,
Puryear and Mayor Murphy (5) .
Commissioner Grumley offered motion, seconded by Commissioner Puryear, that the
Board of Commissioners go into Executive Session for the purposes of the Board hearing
representatives of the negotiating team of Local 1586, and discussing issues of the strike with
the City's negotiating team. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman, Grumley,
Meeks, Puryear and Mayor Murphy (5) .
Upon conclusion of the Executive Session, the Board again reconvened in open session
and instructed the City's negotiating team to resume negotiations immediately with Local 1586;
whereupon Commissioner Coleman offered motion, seconded by Commissioner Grumley, that the
two negotiating teams go into a negotiating session immediately and that the meeting stand
recessed. Adopted on call fo the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman, Grumley, Meeks, Puryear
and Mayor Murphy (5) .
Upon conclusion of the negotiating session, Mayor Murphy reconvened the meeting in
open session, whereupon motion was offered by Commissioner Coleman, seconded by Commissioner
Grumley, that the City Commission go back into Executive Session for the purpose of hearing a
report of the negotiating session. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman,
Grumley, Meeks, Puryear and Mayor Murphy (5) .
Upon conclusion of the Executive Session, Mayor Murphy reconvened the meeting in
open session, whereupon Commissioner Coleman offered motion, seconded by Commissioner Meeks,
that the City present a formal contract proposal to Local 1586 for consideration of ratification
by members of the Union. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman, Grumley,
Meeks and Puryear (4) , Mayor Murphy voted "Nay" (1) .
Commissioner Puryear offered motion, seconded by Commissioner Coleman, that the
meeting be adjourned. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Coleman, Grumley,
Meeks, Puryear and Mayor Murphy (5) .
