the Economic Restructuring Committee, presented a powerpoint requesting $150,000
from the City for a retail incentive program. The program is designed for Main Street to
participate in trade shows, increase their marketing campaign, and to provide incentives
to either purchase property or provide rent subsidies for potential retailers. This is part of
the recommendations from consultant, Kent Burnes, of Downtown Management
Services.
The marketing campaign is "Shop, Dine, Work, Live, Play". This will be used to attract
strong, retail establishments to open together within a specified time creating traffic, jobs,
and economic growth in the downtown area. A Wish List of businesses in our downtown
includes clothing stores for men, women and children, shoe stores, and convenience/
grocery stores. A copy of the proposal is in the Minute File.
The Commission discussed their ideas and questions. The Mayor stated that this was a
proposal for the Commission to think about and discuss. If they decide theywantto
proceed with this proposal, an Ordinance will be introduced in the near future.

from 8 other cities in Kentucky and Illinois and the opinion letter from Denton & Keuler.
