RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The City of Paducah was incorporated in 1856 with the intention of
meeting the needs of the citizens of Paducah; and
WHEREAS, City government is the form of government closest to the people and
plays a key role in the democratic process in America; and
WHEREAS, City government provides the essential public services on which
citizens rely; and
WHEREAS, In order to thrive, it is vital for a city to foster understanding between
local officials and the citizens they serve; and
WHEREAS, City Government Month is an important time to recognize the critical
role played by city government in our lives; and
WHEREAS, Governor Paul E. Patton has proclaimed the month of Apri12001 the
month in which we celebrate "Our Cities -Our Future"; and
WHEREAS, This week offers an important opportunity to spread the word to all
citizens of Kentucky that they can shape and influence this branch of
government, which is closest to the people;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH:
That the month of Apri12001 is City Government
this observance to all of our citizens.
