RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH,
COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY, URGING CONTINUATION
OF SERVICES TO PURCHASE AREA CITIZENS THROUGH THE
KENTUCKY DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE'S PADUCAH OFFICE
WHEREAS, the Department of Revenue is a state agency overseen by
the Kentucky Finance Cabinet, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Revenue's mission is to provide
courteous, accurate and efficient service for the benefit of Kentucky and its citizens, and
administer the tax laws of the Commonwealth in a fair and impartial manner; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah Commission recognizes the valuable
and high quality services the Department of Revenue offers to residents and business
owners in the community and surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah Commission values and urges the
Department of Revenue to continue to provide gratis tax assistance to eligible residents;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah Commission acknowledges the
Department of Revenue's supportive role toward the City of Paducah's economic
development by providing assistance to new and existing businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah is a regional hub for West Kentucky,
whereby, the Department of Revenue Paducah Office serves neighboring counties of
Graves, Ballard, and Marshall; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah understands that William Cox,
Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Revenue is preparing a recommendation
to close the Department's Service Office Paducah; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah has received a letter from Mayor J.
Daniel Kemp, Hopkinsville, petitioning to keep the Hopkinsville Office open.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH,
KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Paducah City Commission hereby urges Governor
Steve Beshear, Finance Secretary Jonathan Miller and Commissioner William Cox, to
continue to provide services to Purchase Area citizens and businesses through the
Department's Paducah Office.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall be in full f ce ff~ct from and
after its adoption. \
