A MUNICIPAL ORDER OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
REQUESTING THE COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY, GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
FOR LOCAL DEVELOPMENT, PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR
RETENTION OF THE AMERICAN QUILTER'S SOCIETY ANNUAL KENTUCKY
CONVENTION
WHEREAS, Every spring, Paducah serves as the host city for the American Quilter's
Society annual show convention; and
WHEREAS, this international event brings 35,000 visitors to Paducah and Western
Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, the economic impact to the Commonwealth is at least $17 million; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah, McCracken County, and Convention and Visitor's
Bureau have agreed that local financial incentives are necessary to retain
the show in Paducah; and
WHEREAS, the Governor's Office for Local Development may have funds available to
assist Paducah with show retention; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to submit an application to the Governor's Office for Local
Development for the financial assistance.
BE IT ORDERED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City of Paducah hereby authorizes the Mayor to
execute an application and all documents relating to same, requesting a grant from the
Commonwealth of Kentucky, Governor's Office for Local Development to help retain the
American Quilters' Society Annual Exhibition Show.
SECTION 2. This order shall be in full force and effect from and after the
date of its adoption.
