ORDINANCE NO. 89-7-4283
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 12-44 AND 12-48 OF
CHAPTER 12, FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. Sec. 12-44, Completion required;
length of program, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"No person shall be employed on a permanent basis

tyrololtIt until he/she has successfully completed

of six ( 6 ) months as an
applicant -candidate, under the terms, provisions and
conditions as set out in this division and as established
for training by the chief of,the Paducah Fire Department.
This six (6) month probationary period shall include an
initial training period of a minimum of thirty (30) days,
with the option of additional days as may be deemed
necessary at the discretion of the fire chief. The initial
training period shall not exceed a maximum of sixty (60)
days Upon completion of this initial training period the
fire chief will assign the applicant-candidate(s) to a
regular platoon working twenty-four (24) hours on duty and
forty-eight (48) hours off duty, at a rate of pay as set out
in Section 12-48, to complete the remainder of the six (6)
month probationary period."
SECTION 2. Sec. 12-48, Salary of trainees, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"Each person employed as an applicant -candidate
for employment as afirefighter shall be paid,
effective July 1, 1987, the salary of six hundred
seventy-one dollars ($671.00) per month, at the same time
other ¢1t1t regular firefighter salaries are paid, and such
ttAXA�Ad salary shall be for training time at the rate of
forty (40) hours per week. Upon completion of a minimum of

thirty (30) days and a maximum of sixty (60) days' training
as an applicant -candidate, the individual shall, upon
recommendation of the chief of the Paducah Fire Department,
be assigned for further training with a regular platoon and
be paid at the rate of three dollars and sixty-seven cents
($3.67) per hour, effective July 1, 1987, until the
completion of their training and probationary period."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be read on two
separate days and will become effective upon publication of
title and a certified summary thereof.
