ORDINANCE NO. 96-2- %
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 25-1, "NUMBER, RANK
AND SALARIES OF MEMBERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT" OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
Section 1. That Subsection (a) of Section 25-1, "Number, rank and
salaries of members of department" is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 25-1. number, rank and salaries of members of department.
"(a) The number and rank of members of the police department of the City
of Paducah and the salary of each position that shall be paid upon satisfactory completion
of consecutive years of service in the police department shall be as follows:

`fib) There shall be three Assistant Chiefs of Police as follows:
1 Assistant Chief of Police for Detectives, whose duties shall include
all investigative units administered by the Police Department.
2 Assistant Chief of Police for Operations - Patrol

"(c) Upon recommendation of his shift commander or captain in charge of a
division and the department executive officer, and the certification of the chief of the
Paducah Police Department that a police officer possesses qualifications and has achieved
standards of performance established within the department, after approval by the city
manager, a police officer may be designated a "first class police officer" after successfully
completing a minimum of five (5) years of service with the department. Designation as a
first class police officer shall not constitute a promotion in rank, and such designation shall
cease upon failure by a police officer to maintain the level of qualifications and standards
of performance for which he was originally certified to possess.
"(d) A police officer who is regularly assigned to investigative duties in
the Special Investigative Unit (S.I.U.) and officers assigned to investigative duties as a
detective or bomb technician by the chief of the Paducah Police Department and with the
(� approval of the city manager, shall, after the first thirty (30) days of such assignment,
receive additional compensation of forty dollars ($40.00) per bi-weekly pay period
effective December 28, 1992.
"(e) Each officer shall receive an initial clothing allowance of $500.00,
and in the event such officer shall fail to serve in the department for more than one (1)
year, all clothing purchased with the initial clothing allowance shall be returned to the
department. The department shall furnish all leather items of equipment, except shoes,
which items shall remain the property of the department and shall be returned to the
department upon the departure of an officer from the department for any reason other than
retirement.
"Each officer shall be issued a soft body armor vest, at time of initial
employment, at no cost to the employee. Body armor vests issued by the City will be
replaced at no cost to the officer in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
Vests will be returned to the City upon replacement or upon the officers termination of
employment.

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and shall
become effective upon summary publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
