MEETING DETAILS
The Civic Beautification Board members met on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at 12:00pm. The meeting was held at City Hall, 300 S. 5th St, Paducah, KY 42003.
ATTENDEES
In attendance were Kathy Montgomery (Chairman), Staci Drake (Co-Chairman), Denny Roof (Treasurer), Mary Dossett (Secretary), Fowler Black (Tourism), Tim Story, Misty Freeman, Mark Anderson,
and Kay Cochran. Board members not in attendance were Jill Durham (HOM), Karen Petter (New Member), Wayne Armbruster, Leslie Haywood-Moore, Kathy McHaney, Paul Grumley, Michele Murphy,
Storm Wilson and Pam Spencer (City Rep).
CALL TO ORDER
Kathy called the meeting to order at 12:01pm at City Hall with the pledge of allegiance and reminded members to silence their phones. Kathy asked everyone to sign the cards in the corner
of the room and thanked everyone for coming.
The June minutes were presented and approved.
Kathy introduced Claudia Meeks to the board. She went into detail on how she is a big part of the board. Claudia explained about what it means to have a quorum and how she enjoys the
dogwood trail and the trolley ride. She was born and raised in Paducah and has worked for the city for about 20 years. She thanked the board members for all they do and to let her know
if we ever have any questions. Kathy mentioned we are tax exempt under the city.
Treasurer:
Ronna has resigned; she has a new grandchild. Denny Roof will be the new treasurer. He has put everything into QuickBooks. Please give all your receipts to Denny. Kathy mentioned that
our annual allotment was more this year ($6500).
Secretary:
Kathy mentioned Mary is joining us over the phone due to her newborn. Kathy handed out the minutes to the board members.
Corresponding Secretary:
Kay Cochran has agreed to take on this role. She will help with the thank you notes for the Dogwood trail.
OLD BUSINESS
New Member:
Karen was absent. Kathy mentioned we may need less people on the board. We will look at people who have recently submitted applications. Kathy will get with the mayor to look at applications.
House of the Month:
No report.
Business Award:
No report.
Dogwood Trees:
We have received lots of rain this summer. Tim said the trees are looking good. Tim went into detail about how the location of the trees is very important. The ones planted in the shade
are doing the best.
Dogwood Trail:
Kathy explained when the city needs the sign count for the dogwood trail. Chris Yarber said they need the count by November if possible. Kathy asked the board to think about changes
that need to be made for the trail. Some have said the trail was too long. Let’s start at City Hall again. Staci will be the new chairman for the Dogwood Trail.
Social Media:
Misty went into detail about number of views and likes on our CBB Facebook page.
Paducah Alliance of Neighborhoods (PAN):
Kathy explained what PAN is. They find condemned houses and let someone move in once they are rebuilt. Sharon Poat oversees this committee. We plant a dogwood in their yard once the
new home is built with the owner’s permission. Kathy is looking at planting dogwoods in front of Jetton under the canopy.
Whitehaven - Playground:
Mark updated the board on the playground. He mentioned fundraising as an option. He will be on the lookout for sales on playground equipment. He will send out ideas on equipment to the
board.
Welcome to Paducah Signs:
Kathy mentioned updates to the Paducah signs. The phases will be stonework, planting, and then mulch. She met with Dan Bell at James sanders nursey. He is their horticulturist. They
want to take everything out of the beds and start fresh. Kathy asked if we have any ideas of who to get another bid from. They plan to plant everything in the fall. We will have new
lighting as well. Kathy is meeting with team again on Thursday.
Dogwood Trail Committees:
Kathy asked for each member on the board to text her on how we can improve next year, what went well, what needs more explanation, etc.
Citizen of the Month:
Misty reached out to Keisha about posting her artwork on our Facebook page. We are waiting for her approval. She asked members to help with Citizen of the month and to be thinking of
people. We are still on the lookout for the guy who picks up trash on Pecan.
Paducah Corridors:
No report
NEW BUSINESS
Open Discussion:
Kathy told members to start thinking about what positions on the board they would like to sign up for. She will be out of the country, so Staci will be leading the meeting in August.
ADJOURNMENT
Move to adjourn was made by Kathy at 12:53pm. Next meeting will be August 11th , 2025 at City Hall.
