Pledge of Allegiance.
ko Green made the motiotr to accept the minutes for the 2006 meeting, seconded by
Greg McKeel. Accepted.
Financial Statement - Doc provided a copy ofthe Financial Statement.
The $5,436 for parts and repairs of equipment stood out to Doc. This is twice what it
usually is. Lawn mower repair accounted for most of it. The mower is sent to the
Paducah Country Club and then we pay the maintenance person there for the work done.
We got a boost this year from Tilghman High School --$3,500.
Financial Statement accepted as presented.
Report from Roy Dunning on Stadium Upkeep & Field Maintenance - Accepted.
Paducah Life Magazine had a fulI spread on Brooks Stadium. Doc will get a copy to Bill
Pinkston and anyone else who has not seen it.
Fence Bid - Fencing will be the same style and material and gates will be identical to ttre
fence across the sfeet at Elnwood Court a$acent to our parking lot. The Commission
was presented with three differe bids. Following discussion, a motion and second, the
bid from AAA Fence, which was the lowest, was accepted by the Commission pending
approval o f money allotted by the City.
Sod - New sod was installed to the in-field July 4-5, 2007 at a cost of approximately
$ 1 0,000. Play was stopped on the field until August 2007, at which time the American
Legion Regional was held.
Seating - AIl short bleacher sections were extended with new boards to increase the
seating capacity by 3-4 seats in each ofthe short rows. Only one section remains to be
updated.
Miners - Professional baseball returned to Brooks Stadium this year with the Southern
Illinois Miners playing the Evansville Otters. The turnout was excellent. We were
allowed to keep the gate money and along with the concession stand sales we made
approximately $6000. The Miners and Channel 6 would like to have a fireworks display
at the next Miners game in 2009 pending a permit from the Paducah Fire Department and
a sponsor.
Mid-Continent University - The Commission was presented with a request from Mid-
Continent University to play at Brooks on March 13 & 14,2009. Approval was granted
for March 13 only, as another game was previously scheduled for March 14. Gate money
and concessions will go to Brooks Stadium.
Murray State University - Their schedule is not online as yet, but a game between MSU
and Southem lllinois University is scheduled for April 1, 2009. Brooks Stadium will
receive $1.00 per each paid admission and the concession income.
University of Kentucky - Coach Henderson oflIK said they are coming back in 2010 to
play Murray. This wil be their 3rd appearance at Brooks.
Central [llinois Collegiate League - They would like an opportunity to play here. They
would need beer sales, which is not i4 possiblq but somerhing that would need discussion;
however the comments ofthe Conmission were not favorable. They are not pushing us,
but we would have to decline for 2009. Perhaps we should go visit and take a look at
their operations to give consideration for the future. Presently there are limited openings
for additional playing time on the field.
Signs - Income from signs discussed. Signs on the outfield wall are $1200/$1400 the ftst
year with the 2nd and 3rd years of the contract being $ 1000 per year. The smaller signs
on the entrance to the Stadium walls are $500 per year for 3 years. Some businesses or
people donate service and/or materials for which we give them signage.
We need to work to sell signs. Leo commented that since the boating and marine industry
is so big here novr, we should make contacts and get proposals out to these businesses.
Doc will get a letter out about signs 1s 16s Q6mmission members along with a copy of the
minutes.
New Business
practice Field - we would like to build a practice field next year. cost would !s minimal
and it would help decrease wear and tear on the Brooks playing field. One idea is to use
the space across the street which would take up one ofthe soccer fields where the trees
are, or behind the Stadium. We will look into this.
Additionat Seating - We need approximately I 00 chair back seats to fill gaps in the
Stadiurn There was a motion to ask the city for money for additional seats. $10,000 was
awarded to the Commission for a suruey. Perhaps this can be used for seats.
lnsurance - All losses have been reported to the city including $6000 from theft oftoois
and equipment. The b,reak-in was reported to the police, to the City and to risk
management, but we havent received a response as yet.
Sealer - The City has awarded additional money for sealer, and a masonry bid rvas
presetrted to the Commission for labor and materials. The labor can be done by the Class
D workers, in which case we would only need money for the materialsi
ovc - we have the ovc tournament for one more year (2009). A new conffact will be
negotiated with the offer for additional firnds from McDonald's to help obtain the new
contract.
pepsi - Leo asked about the Brooks Stadium deai with Pepsi. Pepsi wants to replace tie
current outdated scoreboard with a new updated one' The Qsmmi5slea v,'m15 1[s
scoreboard to be no less in size that the current one, have the name of the facility on it
along with the Pepsi logo, and to be in place before the Paducah Tilehman High School
season. After discussion the Commission voted to accept the new scoreboard as a
replacement if there would be no cost to the City.
District and Regional Tournaments - District not played here because OVC is at the
same time.
Graves County has the Regional for two more years. Howard Finley said he would talk to
the coaches about gettirg it back at Brooks Stadiun Greg has talked to some coaches
and they will bring it up with the coaches Association. Mark has offered to meet with the
State BasebaU Commissioner.
No other new business. Meeting a{ourned
