HomeMy WebLinkAbout9-19-13 Brooks Stadium Commission Meeting MinutesL6499L MINUTE5 OF BROOKS STADIUM COMMISSION MEETING SEPTEMBER 79,2OT3 The regular meeting of the Brooks Stadium Commission Members was conducted at the Stadium on September 19, 2013. Members present were: Frank Hideg, PresidenU Neel Carroll, Treasure; Bill Pinkston, Secretary; Leo Green; Howard Finley; Jay Smith; and Mark Thompson, ex officio. The meeting was called to order by President Hideg. Leo Green offered an invocation. Mark Thompson led the Commission Members in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Pinkston read the Minutes of the last meeting, May 9, 2013. Treasurer Carroll provided a Financial Report. He reported that the Commission had 549,000 in the bank as of 8-31-13. President Hideg gave a report on the status of a possible bid to host the OVC post season tournament in2074. President Hideg got monetary commitments from the City of Paducah, from McCracken County, and from the Convention & Visitors Bureau in amount of s2,500 each. However, oVC ultimately decided to return to Jackson, TN, for its 2014 tournament. President Hideg reported that the National Club Baseball Association World Series will return to Brooks Stadium May 15 through May 2L, 2014. While Brooks Stadium did not actually make money on this year's tournament, we at least broke even. Mary Hammonds of the CVB loves this tournament as it brings a many people from out of town to Paducah, all of whom spend a lot of money here. We will get to keep 50% of the gate for this tournament. The Kentucky Sports Authority will help subsidize this tournament. The American Legion has not been paying for its use of the Stadium. President Hideg suggested that he and Mark Thompson meet with the new Post Commander to see if that can't be resolved. A web site report was provided by Secretary Pinkston. lt was suggested that we add to the Site President Hideg's list of colleges and professional teams that have played at the Stadium since the creation of the Commission. A list of those teams is included in the correspondence file. Leo Green suggested that there should be a way to "drive" people to our web site, for example, by use hyperlinks from our sponsors' own web sites or by signage at the stadium. lt was discussed that perhaps the scoreboard could be modified to include our web address and that it could be painted on the stadium. The schedules for Paducah Tilghman High school and American Legion for the 2014 season were discussed. Greg McKeel will have the Tilghman schedule. lt was discussed that the 2014 high school regional post season tournament could be played at the stadium but that decision will necessarily be deferred until the spring. President Hideg presented a list of events to be conducted at the stadium between now and next spring, including a wedding, a soccer tournament on the grounds behind the stadium, a regular season game next spring between UK and MSU, the annual visit of the Frontier Leaguer Southern lllinois Miners, and others. President Hideg introduced the commission Members to Roy and the people helping him with stadium maintenance this week, including tuck pointing' There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
