Belore the meeting was officially brought to order, Doc Hideg announced that two more high
school tournaments were picked up. He also reported that $7,000 was picked up to help pay
utility bills, thanks to Mark, Parks Services.
Doc Hideg brought the meeting to order. Leo Green gave the lnvocation, which was followed by
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Doc began by saying that he {elt the Commission should become more transparent and should
be accountable for what they are doing. This is the first Board meeting in a couple of years. He
recommended the Commission meet at least twice a year. The Commission needs to be more
involved and give direction.
Need to be more transparent. $75,000, plus 7,000, 5,000 County to pay for seats directly to seat
company.
2,000 PTHS direct to net company. 80 seats put in. Electrician's union lixing scoreboard.
Since signs bring in the most revenue, Doc would like to see everyone help sell signage at the
Stadium.
He pointed out that there are services donated that aren't recorded in the books. Things like
McKeel donating equipment, such as the lift to lix the scoreboard, or hauling equipment for
service and repiir. Greg purchased 24 lockers, and a building on 8th street to house the hitting
cage. The hitting net and pitching machine will be moved over there. lt is a large building and
the hitting cage can be open year round.
Doc told the group he was happy to see Brooks Stadium under the Parks division now. He said
that he had asked Mark to come up with a plan so that Brooks Stadium would to be in tune with
the City's direction. ln addition, he asked George Jessup(?) to draw up a sel of books. He
turned the meeting over to Mark.
Mark reported that he touched base with Jon Perkins, Finance Director, about getting things
back in line. He said there would be procedures put together for handling money, etc.
Mark asked Doc Hideg if he had minutes from previous meetings. Doc did not have them with
him, but he has copies on his computer. Mark proceeded with the agenda items.
Financial Statement
Doc Hideg showed the board the log that he (Judy) keeps, which shows record of signs sold
and money spent. He gave this to George and he came up with the Profit and Loss report that is
part of the packet. This Profit and Loss statemenl will be the record to be made publicly
available.
Thirty-two percent of income comes f rom signs.
Balance of $2,536.58 does not include the $4,800 received from Pepsi

City bought mowers for $5,000 - goes out to golf course each year. We pay them for parts, etc.
Top dresser from the Country Club (Greg picks up and delivers).
Has vacuum system that saves in raking grass.
George volunteered to create daily sheets similar to the log.

Y
There is water leak where the Stadium ties on to the City. Although the City has been out and
says it isn't leaking, there is evidence to the contrary.
Stadium rool leaks around the steps.
Have used concrete, and directing water to run elsewhere.
Getting right material and how to put it. Mark will try to find someone with concrete expertise to
take a look. Some gaps you can see through, some smaller. Sealer from Federal Material that
were used on bridges. Then Jonathon Hines pulled it out. Something with elasticity (gets sticky
when hot)
Find out what that material is. Mark will let Joel S. know
Prevention - spray rye out to kill it. Look at first of May to spray and kill the rye would save re-
plugging in the future. And it happens in the middle of the baseball season.
Start cutting earlier ...left too long Pittium blight
Pepsi Report
4,000+1,700+3,000
1 ,700 for scoreboard refurbishing
3,OOO Commitment trom Pepsi Made (they have given in the last five years)
Leo reported that things are going along with negotiating a future four-year commitment.
Pepsi has been there since the start and they come through with what they promise, although a
little slow in cutting the checks.
Mr. Crisp had said that there is a 25-year contract to serve Pepsi. Several board members said
they have never seen such a contract. Doc Hideg said that he has a copy, but didn't bring it with
him today.
Pepsi has done a good job and always come through with soft drinks for different occasions.
Talk with Coke two years ago and they wouldl provide product but no money.
Need to have a meeting to talk about the future. 3,000 + product (water Gatorade). OVC maior
sponsor advertiser.
Channel 6 does 3,000 of TV advertising for OVC
St up meeting with Pepsi with the board (or at least several members), and a City
representative. They have indicated that Pepsi would rather write a check to the City and then
the City could pass on to the Brooks Stadium Commission' Go through the City.
Value in free product?
Lease out concession. 25% of gross paid to Brooks
Leo has a copy of the letter he wrote to Pepsi on his computer and is willing to send that to Mark
to use-perhaps it it came f rom the City things would move Jaster.
Pipe fitters installed gates at handicap area.
Mark said he would be in town Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday but will be out Thursday and
Friday if they want to move on meeting as soon as possible.
It was decided that Mark would call James Barnes to set up a meeting. Since they are wanting
other business in the City too, i.e. the Skatepark sponsorship. lf Mark calls, they might realize
that the Comission is under the City. City as authority ligure. Mark will confirm with Leo Barnes'
phone number.
Financial Controls
Need control to balance # of tickets sold and # of tickets taken.
Pay Commission for playing there. Paying their fair share.
Umpire Association met. Someone from H.S. Associalion met. They said no problems with
having the tournament in Paducah.
Be more transparent. Most schools think it doesn't cost to run the place.
Some feel it is owned by the City and don't believe American Legion and other sources pay jor
the upkeep.
It is leased from the City and the Commission is responsible.
Brooks is the only lield in region that meets requirements and specifications Ior state
tournaments.
Should we be getting a contract signed? We need to negotiate as to what is fair. Mark
suggested that a contract be drawn up and sent out asking them to sign il they want to commit
to this year, otherwise send back unsigned.
Doc asked Greg to contact Leeper to work out. Maybe they will have a contract we can use.
More and more tournaments.207 Single-A in Paducah? Not sure? End results o{ field, belore
OVC comes. 2-day Saturday and Sunday.
Lexington now - West...district coaches would like to have it here. They pay 9,000 to have it
there. Brooks inside lields and compare to any 3A in the country. Doc said that there have been
two colleges call this year already. Make sure our kids get to play there. Perhaps we should go
to PTHS first to see how it would affect them.
Concessions
Pay percentage to ballpark. More visible to show what is brought in. Mark suggested seeking
bids just for perspective on improvements.

American Legion-Right now is held in lndianapolis. Feedback is positive. People like they way
the tournament is run and the City, hotels. Etc. Bids are due by March 31, and they meet in
May. The tournamenl will be awarded before June and it looks promising for Brooks. Eight
teams in Mid-South: Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and
Mississippi. And they bring in fans.
New Business
Reiterate selling signs. Main source of income for the Stadium. Doc will send tickets for a
chance to win $100,000.
Signs cost $500, $1,00o which goes to the Stadium lor upkeep.
Remodel the whole concept. Not equipped t handle the big crowds. No plan for it. Get someone
to draw something up. Get something on a Master Plan as one ol the major renovations.
Front of stadium. Close up signs come out 10 feet and bring out. Move water and electrical lines
to back with an island in the middle tor working, etc. Screen in, A,/C...keep llies out and keep
cool. Cleaner than open air
Come up with a sketch and estimate and present in budget. Could we get that done to present
with this year's budget.
Within f ive years it would pay for itself .
Concession stand is 25 years behind. Health Department comes through, lolks get certified.
Restrooms - architect money to draw something up and get cost estimates'
Press boxes - could be made larger with expansion of concession stand.
Hopefully getting in budget, maybe can have eight in'08. Draw up Master Plan.
