HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-21-2023 MinutesCreative & Cultural Council Minutes - December 2023 The Paducah Creative and Cultural Council convened for a meeting on December 21, 2023 at 5:05 p.m. at 122 Market House Square, Classroom B. Upon call of the roll, the following answered to their names: Cindy Ragland, Nic Hutchison, Hope Reasons, Steven Page, Cheryl Sullivan, and April Cochran. Chad Clark, Basil Drossos and Ashley McMillan were absent. The group welcomed new member Sullivan, after introductions. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Council member Hutchison offered the motion, seconded by Council member Reasons to approve the Minutes for the November meeting of the Council. All in favor. MURALS ON RAILROAD OVERPASS UPDATE We are working on guesstimate measurements of the RR overpass for the proposal. Bacon Workman/Jacob Cash has been very helpful - however, their information is more detailed than what is needed at this point (please see minutes of Nov. meeting for details). It is hoped to get the needed measurements next week. BROADWAY DESIGN CORRIDOR Discussion tabled due to absence of Council member Clark. BURNS DINNER Council member Ragland reported that council member McMillan indicated sales appear to be going well. 74 tickets of the 120 available have been sold to date. HOTEL METROPOLITAN UPDATE Council member Reasons reported that the concept note was submitted to the Melon Foundation. The general feeling is optimism for $1.2 million to support program director, program curator, and capital improvements. The next step would be for them to ask for a full proposal. OTHER BUSINESS -The Paducah City commission send out its revised code of ethics to all city Councils. -Council member Hutchison reported the Paducah Historical preservation group is going to help facilitate with the city a discussion with Southside residents about potential public art projects -Council member Ragland reported on a request from Mayor Bray that the Lowertown Arts & Music Festival organizing committee contact the C & CC to ensure reaching all artists with an invitation to have a booth. The group discussed using our Facebook page and website to assist in publicity if requested, and also noted that there is a fee to secure a booth at the festival. -Council member Ragland reported that she will be accompanying Mary Hammond to Frankfort on Jan. 10 for Kentucky Arts Day which is sponsored by the KY Arts Council and Kentuckians for the Arts. -Council member Sullivan asked if there is a list of all public art for which the city is responsible. She feels it would be a wonderful resource. Discussion ensued about Council member Clark’s efforts with cultural markers record and the proposed Public Art policy. - There was a question of when council member terms end. Council member Cochran will email that information to the council. ADJOURN Council member Cochran moved to adjourn, Council member Hutchison second. Meeting adjourned at 5:40 p.m. Our next meeting is January 18 at 5:00 p.m.
