HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-06-8779ORDINANCE NO. 2023-06-8779 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 58, ARTICLE II, HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY WHEREAS, this Ordinance will amend Chapter 58, Article II Human Rights Commission of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky in order to change the composition of the Human Rights Commission from five (5) members to seven (7) members. NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH AS FOLLOWS: SECTION A. Chapter 58, Article II, Human Rights Commission of the Code of Ordinances shall be amended as follows: Sec. 58-32. — Composition; appointment, term and compensation of members. (a) The Commission shall be composed of [€rye (5)] seven 7 members. The members shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Commissioners, who shall select persons who are as nearly as possible representative of the several social, economic, religious, cultural, ethnic and racial groups which comprise the population of the Greater Paducah Area. In addition, each member shall be a resident of the Greater Paducah Area. (b) No elected or appointed official of the City or of the county may be a member of the Commission. Upon a vacancy occurring, the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Board of Commissioners, shall appoint a member to complete the unexpired term. (d) Members of the Commission shall serve without compensation, but, subject to the approval of the Commission and within the limits imposed by the budget, they shall be allowed their necessary expenses attendant upon their duties. SECTION B. Conflicts. All ordinances, resolutions, orders, or parts thereof in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby repealed and the provisions of this Ordinance shall prevail and be given effect. SECTION C. Severability. If any section, paragraph, or provision of this Ordinance shall be held to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason, the invalidity or unenforceability of such section, paragraph or provision shall not affect any of the remaining provisions of this Ordinance. SECTION D. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and will become effective upon summary publicationpurs t o KRS Chapter 424.
