Present: Karen Petter, Jackie Smith, Paul Grumley Ronna Ward, Staci
Drake, Lucia Rogers Burkart, Tim Story, Nic Hutchison, Pam Spencer,
Mary Hammond.
*Jackie called the meeting to order at noon.
*Phones silenced and Pledge recited.
*Minutes were handed for review for March 2023. Minutes
accepted. Paul motioned and Lucia seconded.
*TREASURER: Ronna reported the account has $5141.08 currently.
Pay $150 to Arthur Bonken.
*CORESPONDING SECRETART: Karen sent flowers to Dabney late
March.
*GARDEN CLUB LIASON: Mary reported there are 10 active GC in
the area. She asked if someone could organize the club's ideas
from the commission meeting. Also, to make a list of them and
then we updated them every January.
*MEMBERSHIP: Jackie reported Henry showed up to help plant
the dogwoods at the park. The suggestion was made he be made
and honorary member and in June present him possibly the Duke
of Paducah award. Pam will check to see if he was already one.
*HOM: Staci reported 3701 Pines Road was the home of Jeff and
Susan Thomas. She also said she may have some on the Southside.
*CHILDRENS MEMORIAL GARDEN: No report. Nic suggested that
maybe Independence Dog Park may be a place to add DW trees.
* MONUMENT BOARD: No report
*In addition to GCL above, Nic said he would send a report to Jackie
about the repair of the music area of Noble Park. Nic reported new
planters and benches on 3rd street are done. New trash cans will be
added this summer. We will add the Tree Board to the newsletter
also.
*Chuck Wahl surprised us with a visit. He asked to be reinstated to
the board. He also mentioned about how the city has been adding
mulch to the trees and it's too much. He asked that we ask them to
not put so much around the trunks or they will die sooner or later.
Most are in Noble Park, Elmwood and Brooks stadium.
*Paul announced about Paducah Garden Clubs Flower show May
16-17.
*DOGWOOD TRAIL: Reported she thought the trail went very well
and all work went smoothly. Next year the route will change. We
shall include awards for redbuds and azaleas. The Board would like
to see about replenishing 2 blocks of Sycamore by next year. Jackie
will ask James Sanders about dogwoods for November. Tim
suggested "leafy" mulch for dogwoods.
All needs to be at the Commission meeting tomorrow for the DWT
awards and reception. Ronna and Carol will set up the food and
drink. Staci will make sure everyone is thanked. An idea suggested
for next year is an assisted living parade.
Staci suggested of doing and article in memory of Dolly McNutt for
the 60th anniversary of the trail.
*PICK UP PADUCAH: Bruce reported certain areas we needed to
work on downtown. He hopes to have more information next
month. Jackie did not get to meet with the mayor. She will try to
meet with him soon.
*NEW BUSINESS: New awards for 501c3 organizations. Pastor John
Fitzgerald asked if his church considered for one. The board
decided those awards would take place in October.
* OLD BUSINESS: No report.
