Staci Drake, Paul Grumley, Bruce Carter, Whitney Wallace, Laura
Kauffman, Ronna Ward, Dabney Haugh, Pam Mani, Phyllis Clymer and
Wayne Armbruster.
Jackie called the meeting to order at 12 pm. Phones silenced,
and the pledge of allegiance was recited.
II. Karen handed out the minutes of the September meeting.
Dabney Haugh motioned to accept and Ronna seconded.
III. Committee Reports:
Treasurer: Ronna reported we have $7184.45 in our account.
Mary Hammond asked if there was a budget for business
awards. There will 10 awards and $300 is in the budget.
IV. Business Awards: A possible meeting will be around November
22nd. Mary spoke about having diversity, visually enhanced
areas. Suggestions were made of Thomas building, The Gym,
James Marine, The Hub and Heart to Home store. Mary asked
everyone to look around town and email her with suggestions.
V. Pick up Paducah: Bruce spoke about getting local people to
help pick up. He attended a conference and learned some ideas
of how to get this organized. Whitney and Bruce will
collaborate on getting a better structured plan.
VI. Recording Secretary: Karen just asked to print names when roll
call is handed out.
VII. Corresponding Secretary: no report except Phyllis got letters to
Whitney and Staci the new members.
VIII. Membership: Dabney gave the new members their name tags.
We possibly may have more new members.
IX. House of the Month: John and Laure chose 101 Audubon which
belongs to Isidro and Alma Hernandez. Beautiful landscaping.
John also reported the Posh magazine will publish the holiday
issue with all our HOM pictures in it. Wonderful. HOM has been
a part of CBB for many years. Possibly 1984.
X. Children's Garden: Dabney reported only 6 trees left. She
suggested changing the venue and/or possibly something else
besides trees. Dabney will meet with her committee.
Suggestions were possibly to move to Brockenbrough Park.
There also needs to be some clarification of who takes care of
plants: the city parks, the city?
XI. Garden Club Liaison: no report
XII. Tree Board: no report
XIII. Monument: no report
XIV. Dogwood Trail: Jackie reported for Monica that she has already
met with the teachers. Forms handed out and the art is in
progress. Feb. 1 is the due date for art. Jackie said she will
order the new signs. We shall keep with same theme. Question
was the size of what the signs needed to be. We want them
visible, safe, and pretty. There was a suggestion of maybe in
the future having GPS app instead of signs.
XV. Civic Beautification Awards: Laura said she found some frames
for the awards that hold pictures and the certificate. Pricing is
around $65 for all.
XVI. New Business: Dabney bought trash bags and gloves and asked
for all to pick up trash when it is seen on the road or when you
are trail walking. Paducah Garden Club did a trash pick-up
today. Wayne suggested we as the board pick up every quarter.
Laura asked for better landscaping on the highways when
entering Paducah and maintenance. We need an overall plan
and take it to the city. The board needs to have our ducks in a
row before presenting. Suggestions were made to go to the city
commission meeting. We need to have a formal relationship
with the city.
XVII. Old Business: Karen informed the board of the flower show
next May. Cards were handed out. Also, reported that Juliette
Grumley asked if we wanted to have a booth there to "be"
seen. It was agreed we do.
XVIII. Jackie reminded everyone if they could attend the commission
meeting tomorrow night.
XIX. Meeting adjourned at 1:07 pm. Next meeting will be November
14th, 2022
