July 11th, 2022
City Hall
Members present: Jackie Smith, Karen Petter, John Park, Bruce Carter,
Mary Hammond, Paul Grumley, Phyllis Clymer, Ania Lasota, Carol
Vanderbeogh, Laura Kauffman, Candice Griffin, Dabney Haugh
Meeting was called to order by Jackie Smith at 12:00 pm.
II. Phones were silenced and the Pledge was recited.
III. Jackie introduced the new members to the board: Bruce Carter
and Pam Mani.
IV. Last month's minutes were approved. Motion by Ania and
seconded by John.
V. Reports: *Treasurer: We have $7302.42 in account but the
Dogwood cash awards for the children have not been cashed.
$500 outstanding. We give them one year to cash them.
*Corresponding Secretary: There was discussion
of the trees that were cut down on Pines Road.
Dabney suggested we send a letter to the mayor
and city commission to express our dismay.
Jackie commented to make sure we don't want
this to happen again. Possibly calling WPSD.
However, we don't want to offend Paducah
Power. Paul has already called Sandra Wilson
with his concern. Maybe we should contact the
tree board also.
* Recording Secretary: Karen took new member
information from members.
* Membership Committee: We may have 2 more
members for next month.
* Children's Memorial Garden: Dabney says the
trees have been getting watered. Some seem to
be struggling. She met with Amy Clark to see if
we can use the "gator" bags around the trees.
Dabney has already purchased one.
* House of the Month: John passed around a
wonderful of the home of Gary and Priscilla Dick,
505 Fountain Ave. It's a must see!
* Garden Club Liaison: Ania reported things are
slowly moving towards getting together an
annual meeting with all GC. Possibly a
celebration. There was talk of having it at the
Extension Office. Also, she announced the
Extension Office's meeting monthly. It's on their
website. Phyllis Stovesand is hosting a home walk
through July 13-201h featuring several interior
designers that have decorated many rooms. 607
Whitney Drive. $25 goes to the Merryman
House.
*Tree Board: no report
*Monument Board: no report
* Dogwood Trail: It was suggested that we do a
memorial garden celebration.
*Civic Beautification Award: Paul reported he sent and email to our
board wanting suggestions. He also emailed Pam Spencer about
awards. There are 300 non -profits in Paducah. Mary Hammond
suggested Butterfly Garden and Noble Park Garden. Boy Scouts of
Grace Episcopal for placing American flags. If you have a suggestion
email Laura or himself. Jackie moved to adopt an annual money award
for community award. $500 was suggested. Carol seconded. Part
seconded. Mary suggested business awards in November in several
different areas of town. Maybe that can be the "ATTA BOY" award.
* New Business: Pick up Paducah Campaign:
September 101h. Also, BBQ will be back! She
reminded everyone of the master gardener's
events.
* Old Business: The mayor would still like ideas to
beautify the town. There was discussion of
possibly doing something at the airport. Laura
commented on how pretty Calvert City has been.
We need to do more when entering Paducah.
