June 21, 2022
Meeting of the Paducah Golf Commission
Meeting called to order by Chairman Rick Loyd at 6:00 PM at Paxton Park.
Chairman Loyd led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Commissioners Present: Rick Loyd, Mark Knecht, Mark Kettler, John W. Gill, Bill Wells &
Jeanne Stroup, Secretary.
Others Present: Director Daniel R. Mullen
Motion by John Gill to approve the May Minutes as written. Motion Second by Mark
Kettler. Motion carried.
Chairman Loyd requested presentation of Old Business:
Director Mullen distributed and the results of the City Am 2 -Player Scramble. Although
the participation rate is low, due to title sponsors willing to sponsor this event, the Park is
doubling what it would normally make on a weekend ($4,500, plus $700 in after -the -
event green fees) versus $2,00042,500). If the title sponsor support wanes, the Park
would be better off ceasing this event and just going with green fees for the weekend.
Discussion followed.
• Director Mullen distributed final costs and cost sharing of the AIM Point practice green.
Discussion followed on status at this point, ways to market.
• Director Mullen informed the Commission that there has been no word yet on the 2022-
2023 City stipend amount, he does not believe the City Budget has been approved at this
time, and the individual allocations to "agencies" is not always done at the same time.
• Director Mullen informed the Commission that the Charity League Golf Classic went
well and has indicated they will re -book with us next year.
• Director Mullen advised the Commission that the Cobb budget has been revised to
include 3 more players and to drop lease carts. No new sponsors will be needed if we
retain all the former sponsors. Sponsor letters have been sent out exploring the level of
smaller sponsor participation this year. No negative responses have been received at this
time.
Chairman Loyd requested presentation of New Business:
• Director Mullen informed Commission we have another new outing to Paxton Park
Friday, the Paducah Football Association, with 86 players at this point and we will close
the course at 10:00 to prepare for them to shotgun after lunch.
Green fee volume was up 33% in May and now YTD, which was down 20% thru the first
4 months, is now down only 1% after 5 months. June is up 20% so far so we are
optimistic we will catch up in June and hope to pull ahead of last year for the first 6
months. Our yield, which is the average daily ticket price, is up 13% over last year thru
the first 5 months. This is exciting because if we can maintain our volume (which is what
we budgeted), or even increase it (as we are currently trending), our dollars collected
from green fees will exceed our budgeted 7.5% increase in this particular revenue.
• Secretary Stroup went over current financials.
• Chairman Rick Loyd inquired about trees that have been planted and how they are doing.
Motion to Adjourn made by Bill Wells. Motion Second by Mark Knecht.
Motion Carried.
Next meeting: Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
