Civic Beautification Board Meeting

Attendance: Present: Karen Petter, Jackie Smith, John
Park, Ronna Ward, Monica Feiler, Paul Grumley, Carol
Vanderbough, Monica Feiler, Candice Griffith, Mary
Hammond, Dabney Haugh, Trish Hines, Ania Lasota, John
Park and Aredenia Cleary. Absent: Laura Kauffman, Phyllis
Clymer, Henry Barbour and Wayne Armbruster.
I. Meeting called to order at 1:03 pm. Cell phones
silenced. Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
II. The minutes of last months were not ready to
approve.
III. Jackie introduced our guest Bud Qualk, president of
Master Gardner's. Mr. Qualk spoke of the Toolbox
series at the extension office on New Holt Rd. every
month this year. Free to the public. He announced
there are YouTube programs for the toolbox series.
He offered to send a flyer per email every month as a
reminder. There was discussion on having annual
meetings at the facility with all garden clubs in the
area. There are approximately 11-12 which is
reduction from the past.
IV. Treasurer: Trish reported we had $4876.82 after all
checks are done from the city. She asked for all
receipts that members had to be given to her by May
17thfor a payout. Jackie added that money be paid
to her for anyone who purchased lights. Write check
to PPS.
V. Corresponding Secretary: No report
VI. Recording Secretary: Karen asked if everyone got an
updated member list. There will be a new roll call at
the beginning of each meeting starting June.
Discussion on attendance: 3 absences the member
will receive a call to make sure they still want to be
on the board. 4thabsence member is removed from
list. Of course, the board understands being out of
town, illnesses and emergencies. Reason is we need
the members to make a quorum.
VII. Membership Committee: John wants to know about
process of new member applicant. Dabney explained
the process that are in last months minutes. Once
again, she asked for the board to be discrete. There
was discussion to increase board member count to
20 for the purpose of a quorum. Everyone agreed.
VIII. House of the Month: John passed around the home
of John Wallace on Buckner.
IX. Children's Memorial Garden: Dabney reported the
trees have been planted. The city re-imbursed the
board. She met with Amy Clark, and she said the
city will water/mulch the trees. As previously said,
there will be 13 whites for boys and 6 pink for the
girls of the Oklahoma bombing. We hope to move
the benches at some point.
X. Garden Club Liaison: Ania had no news.
XI. Tree Board: No report
XII. Monument Board: No report. Carol Vanderbough
will check to see if the city monument board is still
working.
XIII. Dogwood Trail: Flyers with the winners were
dispersed. Jackie asked all members to attend
reception Tuesday, May 1011, at 4 pm. Jackie for
suggestions on DWT map, flyers, and lighting. Asked
for more information on flyers going house to house.
Suggested we .need to have a better plan next year to
get information to public and not be unorganized.
On another note, Carol said Minute Man is making
shirts with the DWT logo and thought we should
give free t -shirts to winners next year.
XIV. New Business: Paul is still the Eagle scout leader for
Grace Church and asked for suggestions on projects
from them to do. Please email him with suggestions.
XV. Old Business: Dabney and Jackie met with the
Mayor about CBB becoming more focused on the
city. City needs more clean up. However, the city
has a landscaping plan. It was suggested we ask the
Chamber for help. Suggestions: launch with
beautification award to businesses. Keeping
Paducah Clean. Please send suggestions to Jackie.
XVI. Meeting was adjourned at 1:07 pm.
