ivic Beautification Board Meeting

Attendence: Present: Karen Petter, Wayne Armbruster,
Ronna Ward, Monica Feiler, Laura Kauffman, Ania Lasota,
Carol Vanderbough, Ardenia Cleary, Candice Griffth, Trish
Hines, John Park, Dabney Haugh, Nic Hutchison(City
Planner)
Absent: Henry Barbour, Phyllis Clymer, Paul Grumley,
Mary Hammond, Jackie Smith.
I. John called the meeting to order at 12:03 pm. The
Pledge was recited.
II. Minutes from March meeting accepted by Candy
with Dabney seconding.
III. Treasurer report: Trish reported we had $5926.02 in
our account.
IV. Membership: Dabney reported her committee
revised the mission statement and bylaws.
Discussion on attendance in the bylaws to make
some changes to attendance. 2 excused absences
with 3 unexcused. At that time, the member will be
called to review if they wanted to continue to be on
the board. A member must call the President or the
Recording Secretary if he/she will not be in
attendance. Other discussion was to have 20
members on the board to make sure we have a
quorum when members are absent. Dabney will
check on how many needed for a quorum. New
members joining on own will have a 3 -year term. A
member must give a month notice upon leaving the
board. Dabney reviewed "steps" to recommending a
future member. 1. Get an application for the future
member. 2. Submit to Membership committee which
consist of 3 members now. If board has no openings
it was said to hold till the board has an opening. The
application will need to go to board then the city. All
members must be discrete when a future is up for
the board.
V. House of the Month: John reported that Terri Grief
got house of the month.
VI. Children's Memorial Garden: Carol and Dabney
reported the 19 dogwoods for the 1995 Oklahoma
bombing will be replanted in the different spot.
Dabney met with Amy Clark from the parks
department to discuss the planting. There will be
colors of white and pink for 13 boys and 6 girls.
Trish asked if we could plant something else, but
Carolyn Roof wanted the plants and area to be
serene. Monica asked if we could move them to
Fountain Ave. John tabled the discussion till May.
VII. Garden Club Liaison: Ania reported Bud Qualk, who
is now President of Master Gardner's, would like to
join the May meeting.
VIII. Tree Board: No report
IX. Monument Board: No report. Trish suggested having
someone contact the city's board to make a
connection.
X. Dogwood Trail: A new sign-up sheet for committees
were passed around to the board. There will 6 on
trail awards and 2 off trail. DWT will open Easter
Sunday evening. Please let Jackie know if anyone
sees lights up off the trail. Winners will be notified
by permission slips on doors with a number and
email address. Thursday and Friday: sign
placement. For the reception on May 10th everyone
needs to be present. Monica will have the list of the
children's art winners. Carol will have the Paducah
Sun article laminated and a dogwood poster. Sign
pick up later. John reported Jackie has lights left to
sell. Monica reported the art was ready to go, but
the Women's Club had their art up till April 21st.
Monica will put back up before the meeting.
XI. New Business: Meeting with Mayor: John reported
Jackie said the city wants to do more to clean up the
city. Asked the board to come up with some fresh
ideas and he will be on board. # 1 was litter: Pride in
Paducah campaign. Jackie asked everyone to email
her with suggestions. We had to cancel the
teenagers clean up the city due to a liability issue.
There was discussion on the Class D felons coming
back to help. Also, we need to find out if there is a
county beautification board.
