Paxton Park C#TY CLERK Paducah KY May 11, 2021 Meeting of the Paducah Golf Commission Meeting called to order by Chairman Loyd at 6:00 PM at Paxton Park. Chairman Loyd led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioners Present: Chairman Rick Loyd, Steve Seltzer, Bill Wells, Mark Knecht, Mark Kettler, John W. Gill, & Jeanne Stroup, Secretary. Others Present: Director Daniel R. Mullen Motion by John Gill to approve the April 2021 Minutes as written. Motion Second by Mark Kettler. Motion carried. Chairman Loyd requested presentation of Old Business: • Director Mullen indicated he has had no response yet from City Manager regarding parking lot or paving driveway. Chairman Rick Loyd indicated he would be reaching out to the City Manager this week. • Director Mullen informed board that Chris Yarbrough of Paducah Public Works has indicated to Mark Thompson that he would fix the potholes in the driveway—but has not been done yet. • Course received commitment from Ronnie James for James Marine to co-sponsor the City Am with Bryant Law Center. Entry forms are out and are being email blasted every week to 10 days. • Discussion of budget for City Am. Noted that Bill Wells is working with Chick-fil-A on box lunches for this tournament. • Work has begun on the new practice green renovation and we have completed the expansion of the existing SBPG. Dirt work will progress this week as weather allows. • Discussion with respect to trees and their removal on course o Trees have been cut behind #9 green and plan to build some small moguls topped with ornamental grasses to provide a backdrop and some definition to the green from the fairway (similar to number 8 green). The moguls will be built from excess dirt from the old practice green and some donated dirt from Mark Knecht. o We still have 3 or 4 pine trees left of # 1 green to be cut down to reduce shade on this green in the winter. We also need to cut down one of our larger oaks just left of the fairway on the corner of #6 due to large, rotten limbs, some of which have fallen off recently. This tree provides nothing to the course and can be done by our staff. This will enhance player security. o The cart turnaround on #8 green circles a large oak which is not as healthy as the nearby willow oak and should be removed before something falls on one of our players. This would improve turf off the front right shoulder of this green and the nearby willow oak will remain to protect players from #8 tee who are leaving the green for #9 tee. Our staff can remove this tree as well. Eventually one of the larger willow oaks behind the left shoulder of this green should be removed for increased sunlight as well. • Still waiting on financial audit report. Auditor indicates they hope to have this completed before end of the month. • Estimates for the on -course paving discussed at last meeting have been received, and it was determined the bid would go to Jim Smith Contracting. The fee for the on -course improvement will be paid from a private donation, as well as proceeds from the Cobb. • Director Mullen discussed his recent visit at RHCC to look at the status of their greens and what he learned that would assist Paxton in maintaining and improving course. NEW BUSINESS: • Director Mullen noted that April green fee play was up 17% ---YTD is up 33% thru the end of the first 4 months. However, our May numbers have been dampened by the periodic rain—down approximately 25%. Secretary Stroup went over current financial status, noted that due to lack of current funding, it was necessary to draw from our line of credit. Motion to Adjourn made by John Gill. Motion Second by Mark Kettler. Motion Carried. Next meeting: June 15, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Rick Loyd, Chairman Jeanne Stroup, Secretary
