A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE HONORABLE
WENDELL FORD FOR HIS ANNOUNCED INTENTIONS TO DEVELOP A THREE MILLION
DOLLAR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IN PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AND FURTHER
EXPRESSING A DESIRE THAT WEST KENTUCKY STATE VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL
SCHOOL BE RETAINED
WHEREAS, Honorable Wendell Ford, Governor of the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, has proposed as a part of his executive budget that a new three million
dollar vocational school be located in Paducah, Kentucky, for providing certain adult
and post secondary educational programs, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, Kentucky,
are of the opinion that the location of such educational institution within the City of
Paducah will greatly expand all vocational and technical programs for citizens of
Western Kentucky, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, Kentucky,
is truly appreciative to the Governor for his selection of this community as the location
of such a vital and important facility, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners, while desiring the immediate
construction of the newly proposed institution, recognizes the numerous accomplish-
ments and long standing contributions that the West Kentucky State Vocational
Technical School has made to the community of Paducah, Kentucky, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Paducah, Kentucky, believes
that there will still exist a need for providing vocational and technical training to some
resident and disadvantaged adults and post secondary students who might not
otherwise have the opportunity to assume their rightful place in society, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, Kentucky,
is of the opinion that the leadership and training now provided by the West Kentucky
State Vocational Technical School best fulfills this need by relating its vocational
educational programs and training to those resident and disadvantaged persons, and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of the City
of Paducah, Kentucky, that the West Kentucky State Vocational Technical School
and its capable faculty and staff should be retained to continue to serve the needs
of those disadvantaged persons as it has in the past, and to work in a compatible
roll with the new proposed facility.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF C01,01ISSIONERS
OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:

SECTION 1. That the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah,
Kentucky, deeply appreciates the honor bestowed upon this community by Governor
Wendell Ford's decision to construct and locate within the boundaries of this
community a new three million dollar vocational institution which will greatly
expand all vocational and technical programs for citizens of western Kentucky.
SECTION 2. That the Commonwealth of Kentucky is urged to retain
in its present form the West Kentucky State Vocational Technical School as an adult
and post secondary vocational and technical institution and that said institution be
permitted to continue its educational and training programs in a compatible roll
with the new proposed facility.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after the date of its adoption.
