ORDINANCE NO. 73-5-829
AN ORDINANCE CREATING SECTION (a) (8) AND AMENDING SECTION (b)
(3) AND SECTION (d) OF SECTION 7-38 "LICENSE REQUIRED OF ELECTRICIANS",
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
BE 1T ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That there be created Section (a) (8) of Section 7-38 "License
required of electricians", of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky,
and that said section as created shall hereinafter read as follows:
"Sec. 7-38. License required of electricians.
(a) Definitions.
(8) "Industrial electrician" shall mean any electrician licensed under this
ordinance doing work of supervising and/or installing, repairing or
maintaining any electrical wiring or equipment for only his employer
within the confines of his employer's industrial complex.
SECTION 2. That Section (b) (3) of Section 7-38 "License Required of Electricians"
of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, be amended and reordained so that
said section as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows:
Sec. 7-38. License required of electricians.
(b) Application of section.
(3) Equipment and wiring owned by, installed and used on facilities, such as
railroad rolling stock and other transportation systems, and premises and
equipment of a governmental agency where the equipment and wiring are
installed by employees of said governmental agency.
SECTION 3. That Section (d) of Section 7-38 "License required of electricians",
of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be amended and reordained
so that said sub -section as amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows:
"Sec. 7-38. License required of electricians.
(d) Types of licenses.
(1) There shall be tura types of licenses, a master electrician's license and a
journeyman electrician's license. General contractors need not have an
electrician's license, but no electrical work shall be performed except by
licensed electricians. An electrical contractor employing more than one
licensed electrician, other than himself, must either hold a valid master
electrician license or employ a master electrician. Apprentice electricians

shall be issued a registration card. There shall be no fee charged for
electricians' licenses, but any person not an employee of a duly licensed
business in the City of Paducah shall possess a current occupational license
from the City of Paducah, Kentucky, and no electrician's license shall be
issued or maintained as valid unless the applicant and holder shall have
such occupational license. It shall be the responsibility of the city inspector
to coordinate this activity with the business license inspector.
The city license inspector shall have the right and power to issue limited
licenses for applicants desiring to be licensed for limited purposes only.
Limited licenses may be issued for the following types of electrical work
which would include but not be limited to: Residential wiring only, oil
equipment installation, air conditioning and refrigeration installations,
electrical sign installation and industrial electricians. An applicant for
a limited lisense shall be required to pass an examination related to his
specialization. The examination shall be prepared as otherwise set out
in this ordinance. Any limited license shall specifically be limited for the
purpose of which the license is issued.
(2) All wiring installed in industrial plants may be installed by their regular
employed maintenance personnel which need not be licensed, providing that
all work shall be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed
master and/or industrial electrician regularly employed by the company.
SECTION 9. Sections 1, 2 and 3 above amend a portion of Section 1 of Ordinance
No. 72-8-689, which was adopted August 29, 1972, and which ordinance was last amended
by Section 1 of Ordinance No. 72-12-731, which was adopted December 12, 1972.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its adoption.
