A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR
THE SALE TO THE CITY OF PADUCAH OF THREE (3) 3 -WHEEL REFUSE VEHICLES,
CAB AND CHASSIS ONLY, FOR USE BY THE REFUSE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY
OF PADUCAH
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized and
directed to advertise for bids for sale to the City of Paducah, Kentucky, of three (3)
3 -wheel refuse vehicles, cab and chassis only, for use by the Refuse Department,
having the following minimum specifications:
ENGINE:
18 H.P. or more, Die cast aluminum, 2 -cylinder horizontally opposed,
heavy duty, air cooled 4 -stroke cycle, 12 volt electric start. Bore: 31
inches; stroke, 2; inches; piston displacement, 43.3 cu. in.
DRIVE TRAIN:
Power train to consist of an automotive minimum 61 inch diameter clutch.
Automotive -type transmission with 3 -speed forward and one reverse. Synchromesh
in second and high. Standard "H" pattern with shift lever on steering column.
Ratios: 1st - 2.6 to 1
2nd - 1.63 to 1
3rd -ItoI
Reverse - 31 to 1
Differential worm gear type with precision bearings.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:
12 volt with heavy duty 42 amp. alternator. Segmented wiring harness
with provisions to connect accessories. Sealed beam single headlight with
combination stop and taillight with dimmer switch mounted on floorboard.
Turn Signals. Each unit shall be equipped with all lights and safety features
necessary to meet or exceed O.S.H.A. standards.
BRAKES:
Heavy duty, hydraulic internal expanding on all three wheels. Braking
mechanism to be protected from sand, dirt, and water under normal conditions.
Over center adjustable parking brake with adjustment at end of brake handle.
STEERING:
To be automotive type.
SUSPENSION:
Front, leading link type, supported by two tension springs with shock
absorbers. Steering shaft to turn in ball bearings.
Rear, semi -elliptical springs with torsion bar stabilizer and shock absorbers.
CONTROL PROTECTION:
Controls to be protected by splash shield from road splash.
WHEELS AND TIRES:
Wheels to be heavy duty automotive type pressed steel. Tapered roller
bearings in all wheels.

Unit to be equipped with fiberglass cab, electric windshield wiper.
To be quoted as options: Folding doors, doors must fold back out of
the way of the operator; hot air heater.
Each bidder shall state the approximate length of time required for
delivery after execution of a contract.
Each bidder shall state the price asked for each unit F.O.B. the City
of Paducah Refuse Department, Paducah, Kentucky. Price shall include or
refer to all applicable taxes.
Offered for trade are three (3) Cushman 3 -wheel refuse vehicles. cab
and chassis only. The Cushman vehicles may be inspected at the City of Paducah
Refuse Department, 919 Madison Street, Paducah, Kentucky. Such trade-ins to
be made at the option of the City for all or part of the trade vehicles.
SECTION 2. The City Manager shall advertise for sealed bids by posting
a notice at the City Hall door and inserting notice of the request for bids in the
Sun Democrat not less than seven days nor more than twenty-one days before the
opening of same. All bids shall be sealed and no bid shall be received after the
hour fixed in the notice for opening of same. All bids received by the City Manager
up to the time fixed for opening shallbe filed with the Board of Commissioners
who may let a contract to the best responsible bidder, and the Board of Commissioners
shall reserve the right to reject any and all bids and the City shall not become legally
obligated to purchase same until the adoption of an ordinance authorizing the
execution of a purchase contract.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
its adoption.
