ORDINANCE NO. 72-4-629
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2-28 AND 2-29 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That Section 2-28 "Group life insurance generally",
be amended and reordained so that said section as amended and reordained
shall hereafter read as follows:
"Sec. 2-28. Group life insurance generally.
(a) All full time permanent employees of the City of Paducah
are hereby constituted a group for the purpose of obtaining the
advantages of the group plan life insurance. Such insurance may be
procured upon an application or contract which shall be signed for and
on behalf of the City of Paducah by the Mayor thereof, and such group
insurance shall continue to be in force as to each member of said group
so long as his or her employment continues, and so long as he or she
elects to receive the insurance.
(b) The gross premiums shall be paid by the City of Paducah for
all active employees with the City. All earned dividends on such
insurance policy or policies shall be paid to the City and shall be
and become a part of the General Fund.
(c) The John Hancock Mutual_ Life Insurance Company of Boston,
Massachusetts, having proposed a plan of such group life insurance
and by the terms of which each member of said group of insurance as
herein provided would have an insurance benefit on his life in the
sum of $10,000.00, the Mayor is authorized to execute by signing,
on behalf of the City, an application or contract for the procurement
of such insurance.
(d) Upon retirement an employee participating in the group
insurance plan may continue his coverage in the amount of Two Thousand
Dollars ($2,000.00) for which the employee shall pay a monthly premium
of $1.40. The City shall pay any amount in excess of $1.40 contribution
by the retired employee up to an amount not exceeding 50% of the total
monthly premium for the $2,000.00 policy. In the event the premium
for a $2,000.00 policy should exceed the monthly amount of $2.80, the
retired employee and the City shall pay one-half, but in no event shall
the City pay more than 50% of any such premium."

SECTION 2. That Section 2-29 "Group life insurance for firemen
and policemen", be amended and reordained so that said section as
amended and reordained shall hereafter read as follows:
"Sec. 2-29. Group medical insurance, generally.
(a) All permanent and full time employees of the City of Paducah
are hereby constituted a group for the purpose of obtaining the ad-
vantages of a group medical insurance plan. Such insurance may be
procured upon an application or contract which shall be signed for
and on behalf of the City of Paducah by the Mayor thereof, and such
group insurance shall continue to be in force as to each member of
said group so long as his or her employment continues, and so long
as he or she elects to have a single or family plan.
(b) The gross premiums shall be paid by the City of Paducah,
and any unmarried employee without dependent children must be limited
to a single type plan, and any married employee or unmarried employee
with dependent children may elect to have a family type plan.
(c) The Kentucky Physicians Mutual, Inc. and Blue Cross Hospital
Plan, Inc. are presently providing insurance benefits to city employees
under the Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Major Medical Benefits plans,
and the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute by signing, on behalf of
the City, any new contracts as may from time to time be required to
continue the existing coverage and services as provided by such insurance.
SECTION 3. Section 1 amends Sectionsl-3 of an ordinance
adopted May 22, 1951 and which was last amended by Section 1 of
Ordinance No. 69-11-260 which was adopted November 11, 1969,
Section 2 in effect repeals in part and amends in part Section 1-3
of an ordinance dated June 16, 1936, which was last amended by Section
1 of an ordinance adopted February 17, 1960. Section 2 further
establishes a new provision not heretofore provided for in the Code
of Ordinances City of Paducah, Kentucky.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption and shall be retroactive to April 1, 1972.
