HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 17, Page 914, No Resolution Number9141, v A RESOLUTION PRAISING AND THANKING THE MANY ORGANIZATIONS AND CITIZENS THAT HELPED IN RELIEVING THE DISASTEROUS EFFECTS OF THE ICE STORM ON JANUARY 27, 1972 WHEREAS, on January 27, 1972, the City of Paducah and McCracken County, Kentucky, were covered with a heavy layer of ice that pulled down power lines, telephone lines, trees and tree limbs that blocked roads, interrupted communications, and left many homes without heat, and WHEREAS, the citizens of Paducah and McCracken County reacted individually and as groups as good citizens and good neighbors to help their community and one another, and many of these individuals worked for long hours in the cold and inclement weather to clear the roads and restore the power and utilities and to provide food and shelter for those in need, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, specifically praise and thank the Public Works Employees and Maintenance crews of the City and County, the City and Rural Electric Power Company Repairmen; the Telephone Company Linemen; the City and Rural Volunteer Firemen; the City, State and Auxiliary Policemen; the McCracken County Sheriff and his Deputies; the employees of the State Highway Department; the County Judge and his Staff; the McCracken County Chapter of the Red Cross and its Staff, and generally all good citizens and neighbors of Paducah and McCracken County, Kentucky, who helped their community and neighbors during the recovery period from the effects of the ice storm of January 27, 1972. SECTION 2. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
