A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS
FOR MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS,
CURBS AND GUTTERS IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized
and directed to advertise for bids for the maintenance and construction
of concrete sidewalks, driveways, curbs and gutters in the City of
Paducah, Kentucky, said work to be done under the following terms,
conditions and stipulations:
This work shall consist of removing all existing concrete
sidewalk, driveway, curb and gutter and constructing on a
prepared subgrade, in one course, new concrete sidewalk, drive-
way, curb and gutter. Concrete mix shall be 6 bags Portl,-ird
cement per cubic yard with limestone as the coarse aggregate.
Forms shall be of metal with metal templates, cleaned, well
oiled and held to the required line and grade. Spacing of the
templates shall be as directed by the City.
Expansion joints shall be inch thick, non -extruding type.
Spacing for sidewalk, curb and gutter not more than 36 feet
apart. The subgrade shall be smooth, well compacted, of uniform
density, moistened before the concrete is placed. Honeycomb
and voids in the concrete to be eliminated by spading or vibration.
Where it does occur voids shall be filled with 1:2 cement mortar
grout and trowelled smooth immediately after form removal. Concrete
to have a steel trowel finish, lightly broomed with hair brush,
presenting a uniform texture and color. Concrete shall be cured
by using a colored curing compound approved by the City, applied
as recommended by the manufacturer.
Concrete, when placed during cold weather, shall be protected
with insulating blankets. After the concrete has set sufficiently
forms shall be removed and space on each side of the sidewalk
and on the back side of the curb be backfilled with earth in a
satisfactory manner.
Sidewalk, driveway, curb and gutter to be City of Paducah
Standard. Necessary grades shall be furnished by the Engineering
Department and work shall be inspected and approved by the

Department of Public Works before payment is made.
The successful bidder shall furnish all required material,
equipment, tools, necessary labor to tear out existing construction
and to construct the concrete sidewalk, driveway, curb and gutter
at the following unit prices:
Bid Item 1 - Concrete sidewalk per sq. ft. $
Bid Item 2 - Concrete driveway per sq. ft.
Bid Item 3 - Concrete curb and gutter
per lin. ft. g
The successful bidder shall execute a performance bond in the
amount of $30,000.00 to insure the proper performance and completion
of said work, and in addition thereto will be required to keep in
full force and effect liability insurance protecting the City from
any claim from persons or property of persons in the following
amounts: $100,000.00 for personal injury or death to any one person;
$300,000.00 for personal injury or death to more than one person
resulting from the same accident, and $20,000.00 for damage to
property in any one accident. The contract to be let shall be from
the date of execution through December'31, 1971.
SECTION 2. The City Manager shall advertise for bids by a
notice posted up at the City Hall door and by inserting notice of the
request for bids in the Paducah Sun -Democrat to be published as
required by law. All bids shall be sealed and no bid shall be
received after the hour fixed in the notice for the opening of same.
All bids received by the City Manager up to the time fixed for the
opening of bids shall be filed with the Board of Commissioners who
may let a contract to the lowest responsible bidder, and the Board
of Commissioners shall reserve the right to reject any and all bids
and the City shall not become legally obligated to have such services
Performed until the adoption of an ordinance authorizing the
execution of a contract for same.
SECT -TON 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
