TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION TO LIMIT OR TAX FOREIGN IMPORTS OF TEXTILE
PRODUCTS AND FOOTWEAR
WHEREAS, the International Shoe Company comprises a vital part of
both the economic and social aspect of Greater Paducah with an annual
payroll of approximately $2,500.000.00, and
WHEREAS, approximately 650 people are currently employed at the
Paducah plant of International Shoe Company located in our Tyler
Industrial Park, and
WHEREAS, the shoe business throughout the United States is feeling
the impact of a growing import of shoes manufactured in foreign countries
selling at a much power price, and
WHEREAS, local management and labor unions are vitally concerned
over the competition of these growing number of foreign made shoes being
sold in the United States,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor for the City of Paducah notify our
Congressman and Senators in Washington, D. C., of our serious concern
about regulation of shoe imports and that he request our legislators in
Washington, D. C., to support the Mills House Bill H.P. 16920 or the
companion McIntyre Bill S. B. 3723 which provide for certain limitations
on textile and footwear imports.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption.
