ORDINANCE NO. 68-12-147
AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING CERTAIN DUTIES IN CASE OF ACCIDENT
ON PRIVATE OR PUBLIC PROPERTY, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. Any person who, while operating a vehicle on any
private or public property, other than a public street or highway,
runs against or over, any other person, vehicle or property, in such a
manner as to injure the other person or damage the property, shall
immediatelu stop and ascertain the extent of the injury or damage and
render such assistance as may be needed, including carrying of the
person injured to the nearest medical aid, if requested. The operator
or person having or assuming authority of the operator, or ownership
of the vehicle, shall give the person struck or the person in charge of,
or owner of the property, the registration number of the vehicle, if
any, and the names and addresses of the owner and operator.
SECTION 2. If the identity of the owner of the damaged property
mentioned in Section 1 of this ordinance cannot be ascertained, the
operator of the motor vehicle causing the damage shall furnish the
information required of him in Section 1 of this ordinance to the Police
Officer called to the scene or to the Police Department of the City of
Paducah, Kentucky, and shall, in addition, furnish a description of the
damaged property.
SECTION 3. If the operator of a vehicle causing injury or damage
as set forth in Section 1 of this ordinance is physically unable to
make an immediate report of the accident or furnish the information
required, any other occupant of the vehicle shall do the same.
SECTION 4. "Private property" as set forth in Section 1 of this
ordinance means, but is not limited to, parking lots or areas of
private yards, lots or land and/or buildings, city owned and operated
public or private parking lots, shopping center parking lots, grocery
store parking lots, private or public alleys, retail business parking
lots and private or public driveways, yards, lots, land areas, garages
or buildings.

SECTION 5. That if any section, paragraph or provision of this
ordinance shall be found to be inoperative, ineffective or invalid
for any cause, the deficiency or invalidity of such section, paragraph
or provision shall not affect any other section, paragraph or provision
hereof, it being the purpose and intent of this ordinance to make
each and every section, paragraph and provision hereof separable
from all other sections, paragraphs and provisions.
SECTION 6. Any person who violates any section of this ordinance
shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500.00, or imprisoned
for not more than 180 days in the City Jail of the City of Paducah,
Kentucky, or both.
SECTION 7. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption and publication.
