VILLE ROAD) FROM U. S. 45 (LONE OAK ROAD) TO PECAN DRIVE IN AND NEAR
THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
WHEREAS, the Kentucky Department of Highways has invited the
people of Paducah to comment on a proposed plan for the improvement
of U. S. Highway 62 (the Blandville road) from Lone Oak road to
Pecan Drive, and
WHEREAS, the engineering plans for the project presented at
a public hearing held March 28, 1968 would require a right of way in
excess of 90 feet, which would resilt in excessive damage to abut-
ting property along the developed portion of this highway and
irreparable harm to many fine homes in this area, and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that modernization of this highway
will be required if an interchange with Interstate 24 is built since
it is narrow and dangerous, with poor sight distance, but the
greatest need is for safe passing lanes, which can be provided within
a maximum of 57 feet of right of way, and
WHEREAS, U. S. Highway 45 (The Lone Oak Road) which also would
serve as access to Interstate 24 and which carries more traffic than
would the Blandville road, was four-laned with only 57 feet of right
of way, and there are no proposals to widen it, and
WHEREAS, both the Lone Oak road and Blandville road feed into
Paducah streets which have no median strips or storage lanes, and
the building of Blandville road with a 20 -foot median and storage
lanes would therefore be an unnecessary and a wasteful expense,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That this Board endorse and recommend to the Kentucky
Department of Highways, to change the engineering plans for the four-
laning of the Blandville road section in question to require a
maximum of 57 feet from curb to curb from Lone Oak road west through
the area along which homes are located relatively close to the
highway.
