A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE CITY MiANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS
FOR FURNISHING THE CITY WITH READY MIX AND/OR TRANSIT M:IX CONCRETE FOR
A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR
RE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH,
KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City I�TanaFer he, and he is hereby, authorized to
advertise for 1 -ids for furnishing the City of Paducah, Kentucky with its
requirement of ready mix and/or transit mix concrete for a period of one
year from the date of the purchase contract.
Each bidder shall state the price of concrete in the following
quantities and mixes:

SPECIFICATIONS
CONCRETE
Composition: The concrete shall he air entrained and composed
of cement, fine and coarse aggregates, and water so proportioned and
mixed as to produce a plastic workable mix.
a. The mix shall be designed in such a manner that the following
strength requirements shall be met in 2$ days:
hag mix 2500 F.S.I.
5' bar- mix 3000 F.S.I.
E bag mix 3500 P.S.I.
R bag mix. 1:000 P.S.I.
7 bap mix 1,500 F.S.I.
7'_ bar• mix • 5000 P.S.I.
A bag mix 5500 P.S.I.
Cement: Cement for all concrete shall conform to standard
specifications for `.'Portland Cement" ASTM Designation C150, Type I.
a. Air Entrainment: Air entrainment shall be at the rate of W-
plus or minus 1°7.
AGGREC'ATE
A. Sand or Fine Aggregate: The fine aggregate shall meet the
gradation requirements of the Kentucky Department of Highways.
P. Coarse Aggregate: The coarse apgrerate shall consist of limestone
and shall conform to the gradation requirements of the K,entuckv De-
partment of llir-?,,ra,,s for Class "A" concrete.
WATER
A. The nater shall 1.)e clear, clean and free £ron injurious amounts
of acid, alkalies, oils, orr•anic or other deleterious sul-stances.

1,. Water content. The total moisture content of the mix shall be
proportioned in such quantities as to produce a minimum slump of
three (3) inches and a maximum slump or four & one-half (41H inches.
TESTING
A. The City reserves the right to request amr such tests deemed
necessary to insure that it is receiving concrete of the quality
called for in these specifications. All such tests shall be run
by an independent testing laboratory in accordance with A.S.T.M.
standards.
DELIVERY
a. Failure to meet scheduled deli-eries within a reasonable lenPth
of time, shall constitute a breach of contract -on the part of the
supplier. In this event, the City reserved the rip -ht to refuse
delivery and halt all purchases.
H. All chdrres for truck waiting time shall be incorporated into a
unit price for concrete per ,yard, and/or fractions thereof.
COLD MATER CONCRETE
a. Calcium Chloride: Each bidder shall state the price per pound
for Calcium Chloride.
The Clacium Chloride content shall not exceed 2�.
SECTION 2. The City Manager shall advertise for sealed
'-ids 1,•, postin.7 a notice at the Citv Hall door and by inserting
notice of the request for lids in the Sun -Democrat not less than
seven days nor more than twenty-one days before the opening of same.
All :,ids shall he sealed and no ]-•id shall.be received after the hour
fired in the notice for tie openin,* of same. All bids received by
the Citv I+anager up to the time fixed for the opening of same shall
be filed with the Roard of Commissioners who may let a contract to
the lowest and hest bidder and the Board of Commissioners shall
reserve the right to reiect am, and all bids and the Citv shall not
I-ecome le7ally oLli--ated to purchase said products until the adopt-
ion of an ordinance authorizin.7 the execution of a purchase contract.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption.
