HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 16, Page 1133, Ordinance Number 69-11-2601133 ORDINANCE NO. 69-11-260 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 1, 2 AND 3 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE OBTAINING AND PROCURING OF LIFE INSURANCE ON THE GROUP PLAN FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH UNDER CIVIL SERVICE, NOT INCLUDING POLICE AND FIREMEN, AND ALL FULL TIME, PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF THE WHITE AND COLORED PARK BOARD, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF PREMIUMS THEREON AND APPLICATION OF DIVIDENDS", WHICH WAS ADOPTED ON MAY 22, 1951, AND LAST AMENDED FEBRUARY 17, 1960 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Sections 1, 2 and 3 of an ordinance containing the title quoted above, which was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on May 22, 1951 and last amended on February 17, 1960, be, and the same are hereby amended so that said sections as amended shall read as follows: "SECTION 1. That all present and future full time and permanent employees of the City of Paducah, and all full time permanent employees of the Parks, Playground and Recreation Board of the City of Paducah, but not including police and firemen who have been provided group insurance under a separate ordinance, are hereby constituted a group for the purpose of obtaining the advantages of the group plan like insurance. Said insurance may be procured upon an application or contract which shall be signed for on behalf of the City of Paducah by the Mayor thereof, and such group insurance shall continue to be in force as to each member of said group so long as his or her employment continues and so long as he or she elects to and contributes tothe premium fund for the payment of premiums on said insurance as hereinafter provided. "SECTION 2. The gross premiums shall be paid by contributions from the employees and the City of Paducah on the following basis: The employees shall each contribute monthly the sum of $0.40 per $1,000.00 of insurance and the City shall contribute the balance of the cost of said monthly premiums not exceeding 50% of said monthly amount. In the event said monthly premiums exceed the sum of $0.80 per employee per $1,000.00 of insurance, the monthly premiums shall 1134 IN be paid by the employees and the City in equal amounts, but the City in no case shall pay more than 50% of the total premium. All earned dividends on such insurance policy or policies shall be paid to the City and shall be and become a part of the General Fund. "SECTION 3. Said premiums shall be paid in monthly installments and shall be set apart out of the amount due and owing to said employees by the City as of the payroll period ending the 15th day of each and every month so long as said insurance shall remain in full force and effect. The John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company of Boston, Massachusetts, having proposed a plan of such group life insurance and by the terms of which each member of said group of insurance as herein provided would have an insurance benefit on his life in the sum of $5,000.00 or $10,000.00 as may be elected by the employee subject to the hereinafter defined limits, the Mayor is authorized to execute by signing, on behalf of the City and subject to the conditions con- tained in this ordinance, an application or contract for the procurement of such insurance. The total insurance benefits for said employees shall be as follows: Employees earning less than $500.00 per month shall be entitled to $5,000.00 of insurance benefits, and those earning $500.00 or more per month shall have insurance benefits of $10,000.00. Upon retirement an employee participating in the group insurance plan may continue his insurance in an amount of $2,000.00 for which the employee shall pay a monthly premium of $1,40. The City shall pay any amount in excess of $1.40 contribution by the retired employee up to the amount not exceeding 50'/ of the total monthly premium for the $2,000.00 policy. In the event the premium for a $2,000.00 policy should exceed the monthly amount of $2.80, the retired employee and the City shall each pay one-half, but'in no event shall the City'pay more than 50% of any such premium." SECTION 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby repealed. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption, and any action heretofore taken by any 1135 department of the City in compliance with the provisions of the amend- ments herein contained, are hereby ratified retroactive to April 1, 1966.
