A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO CERTIFY
TO THE McCRACKEN COUNTY COURT CLERK A QUESTION REGARDING THE OPERATION
OF A PUBLIC BUS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH
WHEREAS the privately owned public bus transportation system
has ended its operation in the City of Paducah because the operation
created a constant economic loss, and
WHEREAS the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah is
vitally concerned about the loss of public mass transportation in
the city and the effect of the loss on many citizens, and
WHEREAS after investigating numerous possibilities for re-
establishing the service, it can only be concluded that considerable
public funds will be required to establish and operate a public bus
transportation system in the City of Paducah, and
WHEREAS the Board of Commissioners desires to know the feelings
of the residents and taxpayers of the City of Paducah concerning their
willingness and desire to provide a public bus transportation system,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City Clerk be, and she is hereby, authorized
and directed to certify to the McCracken County Court Clerk the following
question for printing on the ballot to be voted on in the general
election on November 4, 1969:
Do you favor the City of Paducah operating a public bus
transportation system and levying or increasing a tax
which would be necessary to provide for same?
SECTION 2. The question to be voted on shall not be binding
on any board or governing body in the City of Paducah, but shall
merely be for determining public opinion on the question.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
