AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR SUBMITTING TO
THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE PADUCAH INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT THE QUESTION
OF LEVYING AN ANNUAL SPECIAL GENERAL PURPOSE SCHOOL TAX
WHEREAS there was on the 30th day of April, 1963, filed with the
Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, as the tax levying
authority of the Paducah Independent School District, a certified copy of
a resolution by the Board of Education of the City of Paducah constituting
a request on behalf of said Board of. Education that said Board of
Commissioners by ordinance call a special election to be held on May 28,
1963, which is also the date of the primary election in said city, to
submit to the qualified voters of said School District the question whether
a special general purpose school tax at the rate of not more than forty
cents (.40¢) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of property subject to
local school taxation shall be levied in addition to the maximum school
tax levy of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) as now provided by law, all
as permitted and provided by Section 157.440 of Kentucky Revised Statutes;
and
WHEREAS said request evidenced by said resolution has been duly
considered and found to be legally sufficient;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE �
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That a special election is hereby called and ordered to

be held throughout Paducah Independent School District on Tuesday, the I
twenty-eighth day of May, 1963, whereat there shall be submitted to the

qualified voters of said School District the following question:

"Are you for or against levying each year in the
Paducah Independent School District a special tax
for general school purposes at the rate of not more
than forty cents (40¢) on each one hundred dollars
($100) of property subject to local school taxation
in said District in addition to the maximum school
tax levy of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) as
now provided by law?"
SECTION 2. The polls for said election shall be opened at six o'clock)
A.M. and closed at five o'clock P.M. and said election on said question shall;
be conducted by the officials selected and at the polling places prescribed
for elections in said city which embrace all or any part of said School i
District.
SECTION 3. That voting machines shall be used at said election_
and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to .file a certified j
copy of this ordinance with the County Court Clerk of McCracken County
and the same shall constitute authorization and direction to have a ballot
label prepared for insertion in a ballot frame on the voting machines to be
used in said School District as said election and to have printed on said
ballot label the following question:

"Are you for or against levying each year in the
Paducah Independent School District a special tax
for general school purposes at the rate of not
more than forty cents (400) on each one hundred
dollars ($100) of property subject to local school
taxation in said District in addition to the maximum
school tax levy of one dollar and fifty cents (^91.50)
as now provided by law?"
(Notice to Voters: For a vote favoring the foregoing
question turn down the pointer or lever over the word
"For" and for a negative vote turn dorm the pointer
of lever over the word "Against")
SECTION 4. That a certified copy of this ordinance shall be filed
with the Sheriff of McCracken County, and same shall constitute authorization
and direction that said Sheriff and the County Court Clerk of said McCracken
County cause notice of submitting said question at said election to be given
by publication once each week for at least two (2) consecutive weeks in the
Sun -Democrat a legal newspaper published in said city and in said School
District which newspaper is hereby found and declared to be qualified to
publish such notice for said city and said School District within the meaning
and provisions of KRS Chapter 424., with one publication of such notice to
appear not less than seven days nor more than twenty-one days prior to the
election date and such notice to be in substantially the following form:

NOTICE OF ELEC^1ION
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that upon request of the
Board of Education of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, as the corporate
authority of Paducah Independent School District in McCracken County,
Kentucky, and pursuant to an ordinance adopted by the Board of
Commissioners of said city as the tax levying authority of said School
District, there will be submitted to the qualified voters of said
School District at a special election to be held on Tuesday, May 28,
1963, which is the same date as the primary election in said city, the
following question:
"Are you for or against levying each year in the
Paducah Independent School District a special tax
for general school purposes at the rate of not
more than forty cents (40¢) on each one hundred
dollars ($100)�of property subject to local school
taxation in said District in addition to the maximum
school tax levy of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50)
as now provided by law?"
Said question will be submitted at said election at the
regular polling places in and for each of the respective voting
precincts embracing said School District. The polls for said election
will open at six o'clock A.M. and clost at five o'clock P.M.
This notice is given pursuant to an ordinance adopted by the
Board of Commissioners of said city on April 30, 1963.

That when the County Court Clerk publishes a copy of the face
of the voting machine for said election as required by KRS 424.290,
there shall be included the question of the annual special general
purpose school.tax as hereinbefore specified.
SECTION 5. That a certified copy of this ordinance shall be
filed with the election commissioners of McCracken County, Kentucky,
in order that said commissioners may take all appropriate and
necessary action with respect to notification of the regularly
appointed election officials and make the necessary arrangements
Cor canvassing and declaring the results of said election when held.
SECTION 6. That this ordinance become effective upon its
adoption, approval and publication as provided by law.
