A RESOLUTION REQUESTING RECOMMENDATIONS OF PADUCAH-MCCRACSEN
DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL IN RESPECT TO HIGHER EDUCATION
lFdEREAS, The Fantus Report said that "one of the greatest assets
to a community is a liberal arts college", that it is hoped that
"the citizens will see their way clear toward backing their college's
growth as part of an overall economic development program", and
that "citizens interested in seeing Paducah become a community of
quality should support the development of a 4 -year college locally",
and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Paducah and of McCracken
County have recently evidenced their great interest in the cause
of higher education by overwhelmingly joining together to volun-
tarily increase and broaden their tax support of local higher
education, and
[..IHEREAS, the Paducah -McCracken Development Council is organized
and functioning for the purpose of implementing recommendations of
The Fantus Report.
NOIJ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor and Commissioners of the City of Paducah,
for and on behalf of the City of Paducah, hereby request the Paducah -
McCracken Development Council to make a study of higher education in
Paducah and McCracken County, and to ascertain what the present and
future roles and objectives of higher education now are and what they
should be; that the Council investigate all alternatives and possi-
bilities for expansion of local opportunities and facilities for
higher education, including alternatives and possibilities for the
establishment of a local 4 -.Year college; and, that the Council report
to the Mayor and the Commissioners its findings and recommendations
as to the route or routes by which the desired objectives in respect
to higher education may best be attained.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
