A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE FIRST DAY OF AUGUST IDI EACII YEAR
AS "GENERAL 1']ILLIAN� CLARK DAY'r IPI THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
WHEREAS, General William Clark, the founder of the Town of
Paducah, Kentucky, was born on August 1, 1770, and
dHEREAS, generous grants of land were made by him for the
use and benefit of the Town of Paducah, Kentucky, and
WHEREAS, the name Paducah was proclaimed and established
by him, and
1"II-IEREAS, heretofore and on July 10, 1956 the Board of Commission-
ers of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, by motion, granted permission
to the Paducah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution
to provide a suitable bronze plaque upon the public market house in
memory of General Clark, and
UTHEREAS, on August 1st, 1956, during the week of the Paducah
Centennial and on the 186th anniversary of the birth of General
Clark, the public market house was dedicated to his memory by the
Paducah Chapter of the Daughters of.the American Revolution.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COM1'1ISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF PADUCAII, Ii.EKTUCKY•
SECTIOI•'. 1. That the First Day of August in each and every year
is hereby designated as "General 111illiam Clark Day" in Paducah,
Kentucky for the purpose of perpetuating his memory as the founder
and namer of the Town of Paducah.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to
enter this Resolution upon the official records of the City and shall
cause a certified copy of same to be delivered to the Paducah Chapter
of the Daughters of the American Revolution and to the Sun -Democrat,
the official newspaper of the City/
SECTIOE �. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption.
