AMENDID
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT OF ONE MACHINE
OPERATOR, ONE CLERK -TYPIST AND ONE DEPUTY TREASURER IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY
TREASURER; FIXING THE LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT AND PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES AND CON-
PENSATION THEREOF
WHEREAS, there exists vacancies in the Office of the City Treasurer in the
positions of Machine Operator, Clerk -typist and Deputy Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, these vacant positions have been advertised on at least two
occasions and no eligible applicant for any of said positions has applied for and
passed the examination therefor;
WHEREAS, it is necessary to hire, at least temporarily, in the Office of
the City Treasurer persons who can assist the Treasurer in carrying out the functic
of his office;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY
OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to
appoint suitable persons to be employed in the office of the City Treasurer, one
Machine Operator, one Clerk -typist and one Deputy Treasurer whise duties and
monthly salaries shall be as follows:
A. Machine Operator at a salary of $215.00 per month. The duties of the
Machine Operator are running the addressograph-multigraph, preparing tax bills,
making payrolls, making quarterly payroll tax reports and assisting the book-
keeper in such procedures as posting accounts payable, making up payroll checks
and the posting of receipts. This operator also assists in taking collections
and many other miscellaneous duties in the Finance Office.
B. Clerk -typist at a salary of $205.00 per month. The duties of the
Clerk -typist are comprised of keeping a current list of all concerns that are
due to pay payroll tax and occupational license and keeping the License Inspector
informed as to those who are delinquent. The additional duties connected with
these two jobs are the auditing and receipting of all remittances received
through the mail. there are also changes that must be made for concerns going out
of business, changes of address and new businesses.
C. Deputy Treasurer at a salary of $205.00 per month: The duties of the
Deputy Treasurer are concentrated mostly on serving the customers who come into
the office. This requires a knowledge of the different forms of tax levies and a
knowledge of the laws that must be complied with. Another duty is the counting of
parking meter money and keeping a record as to the different types of meters
the revenue was collected from. This job has a very board scope and a lot of small
detaiihed operations which would be classified loosely as miscellaneous work.

The above positions or any of them shall be filled until December 31, 1952
unless prior to said time the corresponding civil service positions are filled in
which event said temporary position will be vacated. This employment being
temporary or seasonal, as provided in KRS 90.300, the employees hired to fill any
of said positions shall not acquire any rights under the rules of civil service
governing employees in cities of the second class. The persons filling said
positions shall be under the direction and control of the City Treasurer in the
performance of the duties of said positions. Said positions shall be paid for
from funds allocated the Finance Department for payment of salaries.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be retroactively effective as of September
16, 1952.
