HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 12, Page 85, No Resolution NumberA RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO READVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE PURCHASE BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH OF 13,182 BOARD FEET OF SEASONED &1D TREATED LUMBER, THE SAME TO BE USED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, STREET DIVISIOII, Ai,1D PRESCRIBING NEIN SPECIFICATIONS TO BE COMPLIED WITH BY BIDDERS BE IT RESOLVED BY '1HE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby authorized to adver- tise for bids for the sale to the City of Paducah of 13,182 board feet of seasoned and treated lumber for use by the Department of Public ':forks, Street Division. In his request for bids the City Manager shall require compliance with the follow- ing specifications: QUANTITY• 91 Joists 3" x 12" - 201 long (5460 B.F.) 13 Joists 3" x 12" - 18t long (702 B.F.) 7020 Board Feet, planks 3" thick, 6" to 10" wide by 181 long. SIZE: Required minimum and maximum measurements Joists 3" thick Minimum thickness 2-13/16" 12" wide 11-13/16" to and including 12" Planks 3" thick 2-13/16" to and including3'I SPECIES: All lumber shall be of good sound oak of the Red and V-1hite species. All lumber shall be well manufactured, sawed straight, trimmed square on ends, have opposite surfaces parallel and have bark entirely removed from wane. Any joists or plank that is warped, cupped, bowed or crooked to any extent that will prevent proper fastening of the piece in place or reduce its strength value will not be accepted. MOISTURE CONTENT: All lumber shall be seasoned until the moisture remaining in the wood will not prevent the injection and proper distribution of the specified amount of pre- servative as herein stated. PRESERVATIVE TREAFHENT: All lumber shall be pressure treated with a creosote oil that meets A.S.T.M. specifications, Serial Designation D 390-36, and the wdight of water free oil retained in the lumber shall be not less than 8 pounds per cubic foot of lumber. The preservative treatment shall be performed in an approved manufactured method as adopted by the leading preservative plants. INSPECTION• All lumber, after creosoting and upon delivery to the City, shall be inspected and accepted by the Street Superintendent and all pieces rejected by him will be replaced by acceptable creosoted lumber at no additional cost to the City. Each bidder shall state his earliest delivery date and his cash unit price per board foot for delivering F.O.B. Paducah, Kentucky, for the aforesaid quantity he proposes to supply. SECTION 2. The City Manager shall advertise for bids by a notice posted up at the City Hall door and by inserting notice of the request for bids in at least one issue of the Sun -Democrat. The notice shall be posted and published at least seven (7) days prior to the opening of bids and no bid shall be opened 86 ,within ten days from the date on which this resolution is adopted. rro bid shall be received unless under seal, nor shall any bid be received after the hour fixed in the notice for the opening of bids. All bids received by the City Manager up to the time fixed in the norice shall be filed with the Board of Commissioners who may let the contract to the lowest responsible bidder. The Board of Comm- issioners shall reserve the right to reject any and all bids and the City shall not become legally obligated to purchase said lumber until the adoption of an ordinance authorizing the execution of a contract. SECTION 3.
