HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 12, Page 848, No Ordinance Number848 V/ AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE ACTION TAKEN BY THE PADUCAH MUNCIPAL HOSPITAL COMMISSION IN ADVERTISING FOR BIDS FOR WORK IN CONNECTION WITH AN ADDITION TO RIVERSIDE HOSPITAL AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS TO SAID HOSPITAL; APPROVING AND ACCEPTING THE BIDS OF SEITH E. GMM & ASSOCIATES, PRESLEY HEATING 6 PLUMBING COMPANY, AND GUS HARRIS ELECTRIC CONTRACTOR AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACTS WITH SAID BIDDERS, PRESCRIBING THE TERMS AND CODITIONS THEROF, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST, WHEREAS, the Paducah Municipal Hospital Commission has heretofore duly advertised for construction bids for work in connection with work in the improvement of Riverside Hospital and for the construction of an dddition thereto; and WHEREAS, said Hospital Commissions has received bids in accordance with said advertise- ments for bids and has verified that the lois combination of bidders is as follows: (1) Seth E. Giem & Associates, 801 Roland Street, Memphis, Tennessee, as keneral contractor for said work in the amount $438,201.00. (2) Presley Heating & Plumbing Company, 1632 Kentucky Avenue, Paducah, Kentucky, as plumbing and heating contractor in the amount $181,410.00. (3) Gus Harris Electric Contractor, 510 Park Avenue, Paducah, Kentucky, as electrical contractor in the amount of $652650.00. AND WHEREAS, said Hospital Commission has approved said low bids and requested the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah to ratify and approve same and to authorize contract by and between said Contractors and the City of Paducah for said construction work; NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF C%ZIISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1 That the action of the Paducah Municipal Hospital Commission in publicly advertising for and receiving bids for the construction work proposed for the improvement and enlargement of Riverside Hospital in the City of Paducah, according to plans and specifications heretofore filed with the Board of Commissioners of said City, approved by resolution dated April 8, 1952, recorded in Ordinance Book 12, page 701, be and the same is hereby ratified and approved. SECTION 2 That Seth E. Giem & Associates of Memphis, Tennessee having submitted the low bid of $438,201.00 as the general contractor, Presley Plumbing and Heating Company of Paducah, Kentucky having submitted the low bid of $181,410.00 for the plumbing and heatin g work, and Gus Harris Electric Contractor having submitted the low bid of $65,650.00 for the electrical work, said three bids being the low composite bid of $685,261 for all contractor cost in connection with said improvements and addition to said Riverside Hospital that said bids by the aforesaid, low bidders be and the same are hereby accepted and approved. The City of Paducah is hereby authorized to contract seperately with said Seth E. Giem & Associates, Presley Plumbing & Heating Company and Gus Harris Electric Contractor at the contract prices above specified for the work covered by each of said bidders in their bids and as more particular indicated in said advertisements for bids referred to in Section 1 hereof and on 849 the plans and specifications referred to therein. Said contracts shall be in the form approved by the Architect for said hospital construction, Thomas J. Nolan & Sons, and shall contain all the terms and conditions of this ordinance and such other terms and conditions as may be prescribed by said Architect to protect the City and to assure the Proper pefforamce and completion of said work, including Contractors Liability Insurance and Guarenty Bonds to insure faithful performance of the contract. Said contracts shall be filed with and approved by the Board of Commissioners. SECTION 3 The work contemplated by said.contracts referred to in Section 2 hereof shall be ,paid solely from revenues derived from the sale of Hospital.Bonds, to be issued and sold for that purpose, together with funds from Federal grants and from public subscriptions, and shall not be a charge upon revenues from any other source, said payments to be made by the City Treasurer upon applications provided under said contracts and approved for payments by the Board of Commissioners. SECTION 4 Robert C. Cherry, Mayor of the City of Paducah is hereby authorized and empowered to sign and execute for the City of Paducah the contracts authorized in this ordinance. SECTION 5 This ordinance shall be introduced at a meeting of the Board of Commis, and remain on file at least one (1) week for public inspection in the completed form in which it shall be put upon its final passage. Because of the immediate need for additional hospital facilities and due to the running of time on the bids heretofore submitted for said work, the public health and safety requires that 'this ordinance shall take immediate effect, an emergency is declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
